happy friday alice!!! could we see “i’d say you broke my heart, but you broke much more than that." from the olivia rodrigo prompts, for characters/pairing of your choice?
For @dadrunkwriting enby (or mysterious up to you) Warden Commander & Anders
Is that me? Writing Origins fanfiction?? @imperatrixvini tried to explain to me that she needed a reason for the Warden to leave Anders' behind without spoilers (ty!) and this is what I cooked up:) "You didn't come for me!" This wasn't at all how the Warden Commander had envisioned their first time seeing Anders again.
The mage was furious, tears streaming down his face as he paced back and forth.
"I waited for you! And I know you knew I waited for you!" Anders lit up entirely, Justice fighting him to come to forefront before he dimmed again.
The Warden Commander had no idea how to respond to the crying Anders in front of them.
He turned his back to the Commander, "I’d say you broke my heart, but you broke much more than that." Anders' breath hitching was the only sound in the room before the Warden Commander spoke.
"Anders, I - Justice told me not to come." The Warden put their hand on Anders' shoulder to turn him back, Anders' eyes changing from fury to confusion as their eyes met.
"What?"
"In the Fade, Justice came to me and told me not to come for you. You know I would have come for you otherwise."
The way Anders' shook his head indicated to the Commander that Anders, as a matter of fact, did not know that.
The Warden Commander stepped forward to catch Anders', the mage's form slumping in his fellow warden's arms. They ran a hand down Anders' back, something that had helped soothe Anders' before.
"Anders, you didn't think - you didn't think I had abandoned you?" The Warden Commander took a step back to observe the mage still in his arms.
Anders resolutely didn't meet his Commanders' eyes.
"Anders..." They raised a hand to card through Anders' hair, Anders leaning into the touch the same as always. A smile blooming on their face at the familiarity of the scene.
"Anders..." They repeated, squeezing him tighter and pressing a kiss into his hair.
"You are so loved, don't you dare forget that." That's how they stayed for the rest of the night, Anders' trembling form held in their arms as he cried.
