1. My friend and I are big fans of Norio Wakamoto so we watched the episode where Matsudaira thinks everyone who wears glasses is an assassin together. The rest is history!

2. I like them about equally overall, for different reasons, but I think they seiyuu in the anime just add so much to the comedy bits that I’d have to say I like the anime more than the manga, when it comes right down to it.

3. My first thoughts on Gintama: This is pretty funny. Also I want Norio Wakamoto to be my grandpa.

4. My thoughts on Gintama now: Beautiful cinnamon roll too good for this world, too pure.

5. Kagura is for sure my favorite character.

6. That’s a tough call. Maybe Isaburo? Abuto? Jirochou? I like all of them as characters. As far as which villain I would consider to be the best, I’d definitely say Kintoki, because I can think of maybe one or two other times that I’ve felt such a strong feeling of hatred toward a fictional character.

7. I don’t like how Gintama handles gender-orientation a lot of the time. // Kintoki. Like I said, great villain, but I hate him with a burning passion. // I hate that one day it will end. // I hate that it’s easy for newcomers to blow off, since there’s so much crude humor. By extension, I hate that it doesn’t get more credit/isn’t more well-known. // Some shipping stuff. Like, for instance, Yorozuya shipping.

8. The absolutely phenomenal writing. // Found family themes. // The fact that there’s virtually no on-screen romance between any of the main cast. // Paako. // The fact that the main character is over 25, lazy as shit, and demonstrably prioritizes friends and family over pretty much everything else.

9. Uhhhh…Hasegawa? I don’t really have one, tbh. But, sure, Hasegawa, why not.

10. It’s not a pairing, but I don’t care: Sakamoto/Gintoki/Mutsu.

11. Sakamoto/Gintoki/Mutsu, Hasegawa/Gintoki, Tsukuyo/Hinowa, Kyuubei/Otae, Zura/Ikumatsu, Hasegawa/Hatsu.

And not as couples, but I also really, really love the relationships between Otose and Gintoki, and Gintoki and Kagura. Well-written parent-child relationships kill me.

12. Either Gintoki or Otae. Whatever abomination they’d make if they fused. Gintae.

13. Strawberry milk. The fuck is wrong with you, Hijikata. Get a hold of your life, man.

14. I kind of like the idea behind Gintoki’s bokuto. I feel like it’s a tidy metaphor for his whole outlook on violence and his willingness to protect his loved ones, and the lengths to which he’ll go to do it. Although Mutsu’s Gundam-ification of the Kaientai flagship was…uh…something.

15. Yorozuya, for sure.

16. Everything. That you can draw a picture of a vibrator and have it published in Shounen Jump.

18. Either There’s a 100% Chance You’ll Hate Yourself If You Forget Your Umbrella or Observation Journals Should Be Seen Through to the Very End.

19. No One with Naturally Straight Hair Can Be That Bad. Fuck the Kintama arc.

20. Sadaharu’s great, but I’m gonna have to go with Elizabeth.

21. The end of the Kintama arc. Because a) it’s the end of the Kintama arc, and b) great Yorozuya moment.

22. I’m going to take a rain check on this one for the time when Sorachi decides he wants to kill off Sakamoto in the name of historical accuracy. I would say Shouyou, but that would kind of eliminate most of the conflict in the series.

23. The last 10 minutes of Ghosts Aren’t the Only Ones Who Run Wild in Graveyards. Or the whole Kintama arc. Both times were a serious struggle to not completely drop the series. (I have since more or less caught up with the manga and just...yup. The last 30 chapters sure have been fun!)

24. All of them, with few exceptions (the exceptions being episodes that are supposed to be serious).

25. Kamui. I guess he’s soooooort of important to Kagura’s story arc, but…I honestly don’t even really think he’s integral in that. To a degree, he’s important, but for the most part, I think that the majority of her development would have happened in the same way regardless of whether or not he was in the picture at all. And I don’t think he’s that relevant as an antagonist, as a whole, barring anything that might happen post-chapter 460.

26. The fight between Jirochou and Gintoki in Ghosts Aren’t the Only Ones Who Run Wild in Graveyards. A close second is the fight between Kagura and Abuto in Life is a Series of Choices. For the manga, I thought the fight between Gintoki and Oboro during the Courtesan of a Nation arc was really intense, but I don’t think it translated that well into the anime.

28. Definitely Light Infection: MS Paint Edition. For a normal one, either Donten or Togenkyou Alien.

29. I like so many of them! Samurai Heart oooooooorrrrrrrr Wo Ai Ni. But, really. Like. Almost all of them.

30. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- Hasegawa. Sorry, Shinpachi.

31. Screwdriver Dragon Quest.

32. Kagura, Gintoki, Hasegawa, Shinpachi, Otose

33. Halt strawberry milk, mayonnaise, and anpan production.

34. Yorozoya team, hands down.
