//: Subject History

Maugrim Peregrine, simply put, was a mistake. He never was supposed to exist, and his parents made sure he never forgot it. Every day hurtful words fell out of their mouths like rain from the sky during a storm, and they weighed heavy on his shoulder. He obtained a poor self image for the longest time, viewing himself the exact same way his parents did. As nothing but a mistake.

Things got better once he was old enough to see that their way wasn’t the only way, but after a lifetime of believing he wasn’t good enough, it wasn’t something he could just change over night. It took some time for him to heal, and every day he spent in school without making friends, the harder it got, so he realized that was the answer. To completely rid himself of the words that cut him just as easily as any weapon, he needed to distract himself with friends.

By the time he reached high school he was one of the most popular boys in his grade. Girls wanted to be with him, boys wanted to be him. Things were better, but that didn’t mean they were perfect. His parents still called him worthless, and as soon as he turned eighteen, they kicked him out of his home- the place he had grown up. He had been working part time in the forests to help with expenses for almost two years, but living on his own meant he was going to have to work full time, and he wasn’t sure he could handle it when he realized he had to juggle it with his last year of school and, if he was lucky enough, a seat in the small college close to the center of District Seven. As it turned out, being popular saved him both from the hardships he was soon going to have to face, and offered him new ones as his name echoed through the Town Square ans shook him to his core. Maybe it wasn’t that he was popular, maybe it was because his parents were right, and he was useless. If that was the case, everyone must have saw him as the easiest choice because they just didn’t care enough. He was going to die in there, but he wasn’t going to without fighting.

Outgoing: The one thing he thought would be his savior, and it ended up being what sent him in to the biggest challenge of his life, Maugrim learned that friends meant the world at a fairly young age. He talks to everyone he meets in a friendly, upbeat tone. He spent so much of his childhood rarely speaking that he figured out each conversation is something one should cherish, for it could end up being the last one a person ever has.

Arrogant: It is not unlike Grim to get a big head, especially when he feels he has worked harder than someone else and yet they have somehow managed to receive the same praise as him. He knows he is one of the most popular boys in his grade and it gets to him sometimes. His head swells from knowing everyone knows his name, and he forgets that they don’t all like him. Apparently quite a bit hated him enough to submit his name in a reaping that would probably be the death of him. 

Sarcastic: Typically, this is only aimed at people that he can’t fight, like a teacher or an adult. He is extremely easy to offend, and cannot easily forgive because of the constant abuse he suffered from his own parents. However, it isn’t rare to catch a crude or obviously fake remark from him when you have caught him in the wrong mood.

Determined: There is a drive within Maugrim that has built itself up from the moment he was born. Like a phoenix, he has had to rise from the ashes of what could have been several times, and every time he keeps his head held high. He fights for what he believes in, and no one, no one, will stop him. He never gives up, and can be quite stubborn when someone tries to tell him it is time to. His bravery is both a hindrance and a gift.

Hopeful: He is hopeful in a completely selfless way. He knows he isn’t worth much at the end of the day, no matter what charade he acts out, or what mask he conceals his face with, but he does have hope for a better tomorrow. He does have hope for what could be, and he does have hope that maybe, just maybe his parents are wrong. Mostly, he has hope that when he dies, and he probably will soon, he goes somewhere that makes him happy.
