Out this week: Dark Droids: D-Squad #1 (Marvel, $5.99):

Marc Guggenheim, Salva Espín and David Messina enlist a group of droids to help R2D2 battle the Scourge, the virus spreading through the galaxy’s droid population as part of the Dark Droids crossover.

In the third episode of the infamous droid arc of Season 5, "Missing in Action," the D-Squad has to storm a Separatist shuttle to escape the void planet Abafar. The pit droid WAC says that the squad will have to fight their way aboard, to which Meebur Gascon says:

"Hm, you droids may have a point. But there's no way in Malachor that I'm going to lead this pitiful squad on an assault of that landing zone."

I almost forgot about this one; I thought Malachor was only mentioned (and shown) in Rebels, but no. It was said in Clone Wars, back in 2013! And hilariously, in the arc that everyone seems to hate (it's not that bad if you watch them all in a row).

I love this line and this reference a lot - it's probably one of my favourites. Using Malachor's name as a sort of curse or a doomed prospect is so fitting, especially if you know what happened there some 4000 years ago. It was the place where the Mandalorian Wars ended, where the Exile activated the Mass Shadow Generator.

Remember that scene in “Point of No Return” in the D-Squad arc after the Venator blows up, Anakin shouts “I want salvage team out there now!” and that one clone says “yes sir” like yah we do need salvage team out there to clean this mess up. However we as the audience now he is really just worried about R2, but consider this:  When Anakin married Padmé they exchanged R2 and C-3PO as wedding gifts. So under the worry of his friend Anakin is also freaking out like “oh god Padmé’s gonna kill me, I lost our wedding(droid)ring?” 

He probably had to quietly go talk to the salvage team like “Hey if you happen to see a blue and white Astromech pick it up” and the clones are like “why is this Jedi worried about a droid?”

He deserves more love ❤

I'm thinking of doing my own stickers and keychains for Clone Wars and The Mandalorian (since they keep doing Din dirty in merchandise).

But I don't just wanna do standard Star Wars stuff, I'm thinking outside the box and have a few plans already. 🤔

Just gotta figure out how to use this brand new Cricut first 😆
