i just watched the odyssey in moving seats and THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC
Back to the Future 40th Anniversary AMC Theatre D-Box Posters
D-Box seats are AMAZING for the right movie
I'd never heard of them before, but my local preferred theater just got them installed in a few theaters, and they were available as an option for Sonic 3 (great movie, very fun btw). It was about twice as expensive as a regular seat, but it was worth it for me.
Basically, D-Box seats are like those theater seats you'd sometimes get at theme parks, where they'd move around or vibrate according to what's happening on-screen. Kinda like the haptic feedback video game controllers often have, y'know?
It really enhanced action sequences, I especially loved how during the few times where the camera would kind of move around during Sonic 3, the seat would follow it a little. And being able to feel the impact when the characters hit or punched or things exploded, MAN that was cool!
For more sedate movies I think they'd just be distracting, I doubt they'd be a good idea for something like The Wild Robot or Inside Out 2, for instance. But if you can find a high-octane action flick that has D-Box as an option, then you should check it out!

Tier TV
5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - AV - Bild wieder da - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - AV - Bild wieder da

I only ever tried the “d-box” seats on a theater once to see what the deal was. It was a Star Wars movie and sure enough it was nice how the seats moved according to how the spaceships flew across the screen and the like, but I never felt too strongly about trying it again until now. KotM may be the right movie for this feature: Imagine the seats jumping every time a kaiju takes a step, or to be sent in the direction of the wind every time a flying kaiju flaps its wings. There is potential.
VR skateboarding at E3
I’ve been skateboarding for longer than I care mention, and I still had to hold onto the damn railings. I’m going to blame it on the screwy sense of orientation one experiences in virtual reality, but it probably owes just as much to my fear of falling off a mechanical skateboard simulator in the middle of the crowded E3 show floor. The exhibit was created by D-Box to promote… Read More
