It was the detectiveās fault Erik was here - damn the man! He was clean (mostly) and had no need for support groups. Erik disliked crowds. He disliked people. And people, in turn, disliked Erik. He was the masked freak on the fringes of any social gathering. An oddity. A freak, if one was being kind. And when he spoke... He well knew the effect his voice had upon people. Hi, my name is Catherine and I am an addict.
Sheād been the only one who had let him sit beside her at the last meeting. The only one to smile at him. Sheād even run out to the detectiveās car and struck up conversation with Nadir after the meeting. Erikās shoulderās tensed.Ā He faced her.
