satoshoko coparenting their siblings(?) together is so tasty and I love chewing it over. Like I feel like I see nanago as coparents more in fic which is also fun but like Nanami did dip for four years and while idk if he had left yet when Gojo acquired the Fushiguros I also dont know that Nanami was giving vibes that he wanted to be involved with Gojo's life choices. Shoko was there the whole time and probably speaking to him? Also idk if Gojo would have remembered to get the kids their shots otherwise.
nanami was Not an approachable person for gojo when he acquired the fushiguros ill die on this hill. shoko was the first person from his inner circle that he introduced them to and for a long time, she was the only one because for a long time, shoko was the only person he really had.
nanami was actually the last, because he simply wasn't there. like, what was gojo going to do? call up the guy who very clearly wants nothing to do with him and left the entire jujutsu world behind in favour of becoming a finance bro and go "hey by the way, I have kids now, could you watch them sometime?" it's just not happening.
the first time nanami met megumi in cwcb canon was when gojo brought megumi to campus for the first time, which he mentions in chapter six. his idea was to kind of--softly introduce megumi to more of the sorcerer world, and he very specifically wanted megumi to meet nanami that day and in this context, because nanami is one of the best sorcerers gojo knows, and nanami is one of the best people gojo knows.
but that's exactly the thing; he introduces nanami to megumi in the context of sorcery first and foremost. he introduced shoko as a friend. he gave them her phone number for when he wasn't around, shoko was their emergency contact because she was in tokyo most of the time where he was just kind of all over the world a lot. gojo took the kids to the beach and the zoo and the aquarium and the movies and whatever else he could manage and shoko was there for a lot of it. shoko had her own keys and her own pair of house slippers at their place and the guest room was more or less her room.
shoko was there. shoko is part of their support system, but shoko is most importantly part of their weird undefined family unit in a way that nanami just isn't.
because he wasn't there when it formed and while he did come back and he did apologise to gojo, he didn't come back as the friend he used to be to the two of them, he came back as a sorcerer, first and foremost. a good one, and a good man, because that's just who he is, but he didn't give off the impression that he would come over for like. weird undefined family movie nights.
gojo introduced him to megumi as a good sorcerer and person and he did the same with tsumiki and nanami became the guy gojo told them to call if anything curse or sorcery related hit the fan while he wasn't around. shoko was the person they call for everything else and a lot of times, they didn't even have to, because she just came over.
and like, nanami is good with them. he's friendly and he's reliable and he's nice and they do like him, and he has an easier time with them than gojo or shoko did in the beginning, because at this point they know that they can trust the people gojo brings around, because they trust gojo. but he's never part of the thing. their weird undefined family unit.
there's a lot of missed opportunities in nanamis (lack of) relationship with the fushiguros that he's kind of aware of. I have some scenes written out in my notebook that I want to put into cwcb about this, so I won't go into further detail rn, but sometimes he wonders if there could have been more there.
like, hes kind of the outsider in the trio, in a lot of ways, because he wasn't there for a lot of things that satoshoko experienced together. and hes aware that thats a choice he made, but sometimes he wonders if he could have been a part of it all if he had made a different one. he knows this is on him. he isolated himself because he wanted to be left alone, and that's what he got.
he sees pictures of satoshoko and the fushiguros and he thinks of his first year of high school and he wonders if he could have been in those pictures too if he had made different choices.
but he always comes to the conclusion that it's not worth dwelling on.
to me, nanami and the fushiguros are kind of a small tragedy. because nanami would have been there. he would have been involved and he would have come along and he would have done his best for them. but satoshoko had no way of knowing that because nanami wasn't talking to them, and so why would they try to involve him?
like, nanami got what he wanted--he successfully isolated himself and left and got left alone--and it cost him things he didn't even know about at the time.
