He should have known he couldn’t avoid Steve forever. He just hoped the inevitable accidental bump-in would happen anywhere but his place of work.
Someone must have told him because there's no way in hell it's a coincidence the entire party is here. They came inside looking for Billy.
As soon as his eyes meet the metalheads, his guilty eyes shoot to the floor. Billy grinds his teeth. He’s gonna kill Eddie.
“DEB,” Billy shouts from the kitchen, “I’m going on a break!”
“The fuck you are,” she shouts back, but in her usual motherly/scolding way, “I know you’re eyes are better than mine, so I know you saw that 8 top just walk in.”
“They can wait,” Billy grumps, grabbing his cigarettes and storming out the back door without another word.
Deb looks at her newest employee and shakes her head knowingly before looking over the ragtag group of teenagers.
“So I’m guessing you know Sunshine huh,” Debbie asks the party plus Steve and Eddie. 8 sets of eyes blow wide at the nickname.
“S-Sunshine,” Dustin asks, and Deb’s face transforms from customer service polite to protective Mama bear in a flash.
“That's what I call him. You got a problem with that kid?”
“H-He’s my brother,” Max interjects, taking the heat off Dustin. Dustin shoots her an immediate look of gratitude.
“Ahhh,” Debbie chuckles, before pointing to the largest booth with the tip of her pen. “In that case, take your time, look at the menu, and lemon bars are on me. Excuse me, I have an ass to chew.”
