it’s an AU, and Bucky and Nat are like BFFs for life, right? And everyone always assumes they’re together and when they do Nat is like “OH MY GOD DO I LOOK LIKE I FUCK WITH MEN? He’s lucky I let him hang out with me.” And meanwhile Bucky just stands beside her nodding along, and when she’s done ranting he just gives the person a little look and a head-shake, like “dude, you can’t just walk up to people and accuse them of being straight, c’mon now.”

So when Nat and Wanda start dating, Bucky just tags along with them because he is like a large shameless puppy, and that’s how he meets Wanda’s mentor/adopted daddy/boss, Steve Rogers. And finally one night Nat and Wanda are like “JESUS CHRIST can you people let us have one evening together alone? GO. AWAY.”

So they do.

When Steve and Bucky start sleeping together, they both pretend it’s just because they’re bored without their BFFs. Of course.

Toff gives Pears some love for that goal
