Found an ancient PentagonLight MS2 at the flea market today, tossed it on the WPB
Apparently back in the day these were brighter and cheaper than the Surefire M951 without sacrificing quality, and they're compatible with their tailcaps too, so Surefire sued them out of existence :V
The HSGI double mag pouch is another flea market snag; fits AK mags reasonably well. Can't find shit about it since Taco pouches are all that HSGI are known for nowadays and it's poisoned the search results.
I set it up on my Crye AVS Belt as an AK range kit - I fuck with how the Camo Green 483 color pairs with Multicam
If all this looks horribly outdated, that's intentional!
You see I'm getting on top of 2008-2016 gun forum jank builds before redditors and instagram gunfluencers decide that it's the next trendy retro thing and ruin it all for us

I don't see too many people making camo patterns with RAL 8000 But following my experience, I think more people should now
@mou1age asked me to make his WASR-10 more interesting, and while I was initially going to leave it full RAL 8000, I ended up going with this finish, which reminds me a lot of German 'Normandy' pattern
Colors used:
Rapco RAL 8000
Rustoleum 214085 Flat Brown
Krylon 4296 Woodland Light Green (which almost perfectly matches OD green Bulgarian polymer mags)
Krylon 4293 Camo Olive
@welcome-to-the-moulageathon finally got me to take the AK pill with his Christmas gift to me - this Polish WBP in 7.62x39
He got me a builder's kit since he knows how much I like to set up guns from scratch
The parts I added so far include:
Krebs Enhanced Safety Selector (hand-me-down since it didn't play nice with the AK FRT I got for him)
Surplus 'Bakelite' Grip (dunno the manufacturer)
Bulgarian Upper Handguard
Tdi LHV-47 Lower Handguard (I was really avoiding this cause >made in Isr*el, but nobody's selling AK200 handguards)
Stubby P&S Broomhandle VFG
Surefire X200
Blackhawk Dieter CQD Sling
Canis Design Group AK to M4 Fixed Stock Adapter
Gen.1 Ace Essentials ARFX-E 'Entry Length' Skeleton Stock
Master Mount AKM Side Rail Mount, Rearward Biased
Things I'm waiting on/plan on buying:
AK-74-style Muzzle Brake (going for an AK-103-inspired look)
No-Rivet Mag Release Pin
WPB Extended Mag Release
Bulgarian Slabside 30-Round 7.62x39 Polymer Magazines
Primary Arms SLx 3x MicroPrism, 7.62x39
Surprisingly, the only things here that I bought for this were the handguards and the Canis stock adapter - everything else we had laying around.
On the same vein, I'm going for early 2000's build vibes; something you'd see in an ancient arfcom thread with 700x500 resolution jpegs.
I've yet to put any rounds through it, but the ergonomics so far aren't nearly as rough as I was expecting - the stubby VFG is actually a surprisingly good index point for inserting mags, and the Surefire X200 is in the perfect spot to hit with my thumb.
The Dieter CQD sling is also surprisingly comfortable with the ARFX-E stock, but I might end up changing this out for a modified USGI GP Strap and a Magpul CTR once the cheek riser I bought for it comes in.
I've basically hit my catharsis with the AR15 platform at this point, so having a new platform to play around with is refreshing.

RS Regulate AK-303 Full Length Side Rail Mount with AKM 30mm Optic Mount
I knew I wanted to commit this old Aimpoint Comp C to my AK, but I had to go through a few side rail mounts before I knew which one was best.
I started out with @welcome-to-the-moulageathon's Rear-Biased Master Mount, but obviously a red dot is better forward biased and I wasn't keen on how the rail wasn't fully center-over-bore.
For shits and giggles, I also tried out a cheap UTG-style 'Double Rail' Mount, which incidentally was too loosely toleranced to fit on my AK, but it fit perfectly on Moulage's RPK, so that mount was donated to him.
After much thought and trepidation, fate bestowed upon me the answer when I spotted an eBay listing for an RS Regulate 30mm Scope Ring for nearly half-off the MSRP, so I decided this was my sign to bite the bullet and just pay the premium, even though I strictly consider my AK a range toy. I ended up grabbing the full-length lower side rail just to keep my options open just in case I wanted to toss a different optic on this thing.
Success - the RS regulate mounts effectively solve the center-over-bore problem by allowing some left-to-right travel of the optic mount. Some blue Loctite and a Wheeler FAT Wrench set to 25 in-lbs later, I don't see myself changing this optic setup out anytime soon.
That is at least until the Chinese OKP-7 clone our friend sent us for shenanigans shows up lmao
A few quick updates to the WBP:
Swapped out the Canis M4 Stock Adapter for a Polymer Fixed Stock
Changed the Blackhawk Dieter CQD Sling to a BFG Vickers
Waiting on a US Palm Grip to replace the MOE SL AK
Also waiting on a different side rail mount so I can put my Comp C a little further out
I really did like the Canis adapter, but I'd honestly much prefer it on a shorter 104/105-style SBR build. We'll see if I change my mind on this, but fixed stock just looks better with a full length barrel.
@welcome-to-the-moulageathon ended up grabbing us a bunch of Bulgarian Commercial 7.62x39 Polymer Mags from GunMagWarehouse, I promptly fell in love with the plum and green ones. The lighting outside is a little bit ass, so the 'plum' color is not as deep as it is in person.
I like the MOE AK grips, but my experience with the Lonestar Stowaway 2 and Magpul MIAD has made me appreciate a good palm swell, hence why I went ahead and ordered a US Palm Grip. Would've bought one of the TangoDown versions to have the trapdoor, but that feature isn't worth nearly double the cost imo.
And on a side note, I'm seriously considering modding the DBT AK Chest Rig to have an H-Harness later, if not making a custom clone of this rig from scratch to get the exact features I want out of it. I have too many other rigs to sew first, though.
Also this rifle will be painted at some point.
I discovered that old-fashioned USGI Snap Hooks are the perfect AK front sling loop attachments; they're not as clunky and self-destructive as HK Clips, not as fugly as BFG U-Loops, and better quality than Russian snap hooks.
I cobbled a basicbitch sling out of a ratfucked GP Strap as a prototype - I'll make something much more refined later with more ITW hardware and bartacked stitches. Maybe I'll even figure out a good quick-adjust system.
Of course, I could just use any preexisting rifle sling with a USGI Snap Hook at one end, but this is more fun.
