RS Regulate AK-303 Full Length Side Rail Mount with AKM 30mm Optic Mount
I knew I wanted to commit this old Aimpoint Comp C to my AK, but I had to go through a few side rail mounts before I knew which one was best.
I started out with @welcome-to-the-moulageathon's Rear-Biased Master Mount, but obviously a red dot is better forward biased and I wasn't keen on how the rail wasn't fully center-over-bore.
For shits and giggles, I also tried out a cheap UTG-style 'Double Rail' Mount, which incidentally was too loosely toleranced to fit on my AK, but it fit perfectly on Moulage's RPK, so that mount was donated to him.
After much thought and trepidation, fate bestowed upon me the answer when I spotted an eBay listing for an RS Regulate 30mm Scope Ring for nearly half-off the MSRP, so I decided this was my sign to bite the bullet and just pay the premium, even though I strictly consider my AK a range toy. I ended up grabbing the full-length lower side rail just to keep my options open just in case I wanted to toss a different optic on this thing.
Success - the RS regulate mounts effectively solve the center-over-bore problem by allowing some left-to-right travel of the optic mount. Some blue Loctite and a Wheeler FAT Wrench set to 25 in-lbs later, I don't see myself changing this optic setup out anytime soon.
That is at least until the Chinese OKP-7 clone our friend sent us for shenanigans shows up lmao
