Derek, very grumpily and half asleep, answers the door. “You had better have a damn good reason for interrupting the best dream I’ve had in years.”

“What were you dreaming about?” Lydia asks teasingly.

Derek’s thoughts quickly flick back to the dream: of his fingers laced through Stiles’ as he pins it down against ruffled bed sheets, his other hand slowly caressing Stiles’ side as their bodies melt together, his lips against Stiles’—locked in a passionate kiss. And Stiles sees it all.

“I forgot,” Derek lies, quickly changing the subject. “What’s going on?”

“Stiles can read minds,” Lydia explains.

Derek looks very panicked and Stiles is still looking down at the ground, trying to hide the bright red blush that colours his cheeks.

Later, when Stiles is free of his powers or learns to control them, he asks Derek, “Want to make your dreams come true?”

There was an odd and old painting of a boy. Derek remembered that he has found it once on the attic of his family home, as he was younger and his family still alive. He remembered that he had asked his mother about it and how her eyes had gone sad.

“It’s the boy from your favorite good night story, don’t you remember?”

She had said and then sat down with him and told the story of her father and his lost brother. The uncle she never had and who was the painter of that odd portrait. He was the one who knew the boy and loved him once such a long time ago; the one who searched for the boy, after he was trapped with the gruesome evil inside in the witching well, and never came back. The one Derek was named after, because he just looked like him. His grandfather had told him once. ______________________________________________________________

Stiles turns to see Allison and catches himself in a broken mirror hanging off the wall. He knew, of course he knew, that he had been changed. His shoulders felt slimmer, heavy with the weight of breasts and magic. His hair falls past his bare shoulders, and when he glances down he is clothed in rags that seems to be some semblance of a dress.

The mirror though — it gives him the last piece of the puzzle. Eyes, familiar eyes glinting out at him, laughing and mocking even when he didn’t mean for that expression to be on his face. His lips, twisted in horror.
