#3144 - Riccia sp. - Crystalwort
Turns out there was also some Crystalwort in amongst the Texas Balloonwort at Katrine. I only just noticed it now, going back over the photos from last year.
Riccias have branching strap-like thalli, and rarely exceed 3cm across. There's over 100 species worldwide, and one, Riccia fluitans, is a popular floating aquarium plant.

#3535 - Riccia asprella? - Pale Crystalwort?
Possibly, at least - but it doesn't exactly match the ones from the eastern states. Might even be a new species!
On the other hand there's at least two other liverworts in the same photo - the smaller branching one may be Riccia sorocarpa with a fungal infection, and the granular looking one is Texas Balloonwort, Sphaerocarpos texanus.
The yard at this B&B in Toodjay was covered in liverworts in a few places.

Crystalwort (Riccia fluitans) is a floating plant used as a retreat for young fry and in live-bearing tanks. It normally grows quickly at the surface. When kept about two to three inches below a light source, it will form dense, bright green mats. Any single branch or antler bud can reproduce into a large colony if the plant is kept in proper conditions. It normally floats, but can also be attached to underwater objects such as logs and rocks.
