There is a species of Ichneumonid that bears the unfortunate name of Pachysomoides stupidus. I'm not quite sure why it is named as such, although to quote Eric Eaton: "Considering it is willing to confront a population of much larger wasps, the epithet might be appropriate!" I would like to express that I think it is quite an act of bravery. Going up against numerous opponents that may be several times your size for the continuation of your species is not an easy feat!
It is a parasitoid of pre-pupal Polistes larvae. The host species are Polistes spp. in the canadensis group, hence why P. canadensis is featured in my drawing.
I highly recommend Eric's blog. Very educational and always interesting! :)
