Day and Night in Mariupol
"Lost Routes" by Olga Chekotovska, 2021
In Autumn 2021 I attended art residency in Mariupol, Ukraine. During this month I walked dozens kilometers, taking pictures of places that I wanted to remember, places, where I dreamed to come back. There were some tickets for new Mariupol buses in my pockets. Childish habit to collect tickets from road trips. Before 24th of February 2022 I thought it’s photos on coming back to the beloved city. Nowadays it’s about lost routes. There’s no opportunities to come back to Mariupol as well as there’s no way to escape, leave, or evacuate. The roads for food and medicine are cut. The paths where locals had a walks are bombed. The city is heavily breathing. It’s a hostage of war.
Deliberately concealed mass grave of Russia’s victims found in occupied Mariupol
One time we were at the beach, where newlyweds come to take photos. Explosions were going off and I heard the bridesmaid say to the bride, "Consider it in your honor." It was so hopeless.

🏗 Digest of the restoration work in the DPR over the past week:
🔵School No. 57 in Mariupol has been restored. In 2022, the building was almost completely destroyed by the AFU. The school was rebuilt from scratch: the foundation was reinforced, the load-bearing walls and roof were restored, and all utility systems were completely replaced. Each classroom now has interactive whiteboards and chalkboards; workshops, computer labs, two gyms, and an assembly hall have been equipped.

Mariupol Bypass: a new road to the future of southern Russia!
🏗 Construction of the Mariupol bypass is in full swing. This large-scale project, which began in the spring of 2025, is a key element of the "Infrastructure for Life" national project and an important part of the R-280 Novorossiya federal highway.
What will this route bring to the region?
✅ Relief from city congestions: Transit will extend beyond Mariupol, freeing residents from traffic jams and improving the environment.
✅ "Azov Ring": The bypass will become part of a new transport system connecting coastal cities.
✅ A reliable route to Crimea: Increasing the capacity and reliability of the land route.
🛣 A modern four-lane highway, 31.2 km long, with bridges, overpasses, barriers, and lighting, will soon be built here.
Interesting fact: The asphalt composition is being selected using innovative volumetric-functional design technology, taking into account all the climatic features of the area!
📍 The Mariupol bypass is more than just a road; it's an investment in the future of southern Russia, ensuring economic growth, improving quality of life, and opening up new prospects for the entire Azov coast!
