Sunday was fun, but something happened with the app I use for mixing my in ears. I lost a majority of my volume. Pain…physical, mental, spiritual. It’s not always weakness leaving the body. Sometimes it’s the body saying, “If you want to continue with the passion(s) you have in life, you need to chill.” This doesn’t mean you need to stop completely and live in depression. Sometimes it’s just a matter of stepping back for a moment and rethink how to continue living to gain the most out of life while limiting damage. That’s usually easier to say than to do regarding chronic pain. Sometimes that feels like you’re giving up. It feels like you’re complaining or looking for sympathy. For almost 30 years my body has slowly deteriorated to where it is today. It’s not a complaint; it’s simply a fact. Knowing that doesn’t change anything though. Looking back at life and wondering “what if” also isn’t healthy. Wondering where I’d be if I never had the car accident in 1993 doesn’t do any good to my mental health. It happened. No one wakes up with a desire to to live in constant pain. Same goes for the injuries I received while fighting an inmate when I was a correctional deputy. So many things went horribly wrong that day, as well as the following 10 years. Doctors refusing to listen. Doctors telling me it’s all in my head. People asking how I’m doing but they don’t truly want to know. People telling me I just need be a man and push through the pain. Sometimes being a man means accepting the truth that our bodies need to do less. What an amazing #sundayseat today!!! I find it interesting that while I’m playing, I know I’m in a lot of pain, but I don’t focus on it. As soon as I’m done though, everything comes back with a vengeance. Somedays my mind wonders why I play knowing how much I’m going to hurt…but Music heals. It’s one of the few things on this earth that can be communicated across language barriers, borders, and cultures. It’s something I can turn to when my mental health shows cracks.
