soto is so tired by the end of it all that he disappears for a while. lives his days in hjaalmarch with his husband (vampire khajiit named qa’ravi who he saved while clearing out a vampire den with the dawnguard) and their adopted children, praying to any divine that will listen for peace.
it never comes.
instead he finds himself fighting for khajiit acceptance in skyrim. he uses his influence with friendly jarls to get them let into safe walls during their travels, and he uses friendly faces in unfriendly places to get it when the jarls won’t.
in time, the khajiit attach the ri- prefix to his name. mane/great leader. soto personally rejects it, but refuses to ‘correct’ khajiit and those influenced by them who use it as he knows it would be an insult to those trying to honor him.
it’s a battle that lasts the rest of his long life.
at some point in time, he has a dunmer named uveleri dumped on his lap. a wanna-be necromancer, he sponsors her to the mage’s college in winterhold as well as teaches her patience, stealth, caution. he watches as she grows from a selfish pickpocket (probably how she got caught; you can’t steal from the best thief in the world, uve) into someone who wields power not just for herself but for others. she gets him to (mostly) retire to his family, where he expends his energy by teaching his children archery and lockpicking (or anything else they want to learn) and spending time with ravi who likes to walk through the marshes at night.
