Number 55 and/or 81 if you're feeling inspired to use them now đ
Hereâs the first one! Itâs short. Iâm waiting for some friends to come round but I couldnât help myself. Iâve got a few ideas for 55 too.
Prompt: 81Â âWeâre in the middle of a thunderstorm and you want to stop and feel the rain?â
Set in the canon-verse after HTTYD 2. Hiccup and Astrid are engaged.
âIâmfeeling the rain.â Astrid threw her arms wide to the downpour. She was soakedin moments, her heavy fur hood was tipped back, dripping icy water.
Hiccuprushed back out from the shed heâd taken shelter in. His hair was plastered tohis face and he shivered against the cold.
âWeârein the middle of a thunderstorm and you want to stop and feel the rain?â Heasked. âAre you insane?â
Astridclosed her eyes and tipped her face to the sky. Thunder rumbled in thedistance. The storm was not yet on top of them, but it would be soon.
âAstrid,âHiccup tugged on her hand. âThis is Berk. Rain only comes in one form; a bitterfrozen torrent. Nice is not a word anyone would use to describe rain here.â
âNo,âAstrid agreed, opening her eyes to face her future husband. âBut itâs so quietout here right now.â Lightning splintered the sky. âI donât mean the storm,âshe threw her hand skyward. âEveryone is inside, thereâs no one here asking usto help out or settle a dispute.â
âBecausetheyâre all inside, out of the rain.â Hiccup shook the water out of his eyes, spraying water from his hair like a dog. Toothless and Stormfly had long since disappeared, seeking shelter from the storm in Stormflyâs stables.
âWeâvebeen so busy running around,â Astrid hugged her arms to her chest. âMaking sureeverything is set for winter. Donât you just want to stop and take a moment?â
âOfcourse I do.â Hiccup stepped up close to Astrid and wrapped his arms aroundher. âInside. By the fire. Where weâre not going to freeze to death.â
Astridshivered in Hiccupâs arms. Her hair was pulling loose from its braid. Shelaughed.
âGods,itâs freezing out here!â
âNiceof you to finally notice.â Hiccup had to keep brushing his bangs out of hiseyes.
âYoulook ridiculous.â Astrid laughed again. âIâm sorry. Letâs get inside.â
Astridâshouse was closer, but Hiccupâs hut had a larger fireplace and would be lesscrowded with only hisâs mother living there. Astridâs family was very welcomingof Hiccup, of course they were, he was the Chief, but her parents werenât verysubtle when it came to things like setting a wedding date and how many childrendid the couple want.
âOhmy,â Valka let the two bedraggled Vikings into the house. âWhat happened?â
âSuddendownpour,â Hiccup was trying to strip off his wet armour. The water had caused theleather to swell, making the buckles difficult to unfasten. Finally he wasfree, though still dripping wet in his tunic and pants. âWe got caught.â
âHiccupdear, go and get changed.â Valka sized up Astrid. âI might have something tofit you.â She handed Astrid a towel as Hiccup rushed upstairs, the familiar step-clinkof his gait echoing through the room.
Outsidethe storm grew louder and wilder.
Warmand dry the three Vikings sat around the fireplace, regaling Valka with storiesabout Hiccupâs youth. She had twenty years to catch up on.
Hiccupslung his arm across Astridâs shoulders and adjusted the rug across their laps.
âNowthis is a moment I can enjoy,â he whispered as Astrid tucked herself tighterunder his arm.
