you can call them flowers if you want. I wont mind. I realized after the initial set that I hate drawing any sort of flora so I did a half ass attempt lmao but I wanted fluorescent succulents. If you remember I posted a while back that the Paul Rubens brand sent me a watercolor set and I didn't know what they would be sending me. So a fluorescent neon watercolor set caught me a bit offguard and it took me a bit to come up with an idea that I knew I could use them with and this is what I came up with.
This has actually been sitting on my dining room table for a long time because I did that diamond painting first. I was really inspired to paint this but I think I might have sabotaged myself and potentially what this maybe was going to be. The issue is filming. I tried to film me painting this because I'm trying to get into that side of the internet and my work space is kind of still dependent on natural light. It has been storming every afternoon or I'm getting off work late and it feels too late to pop out the painting set and make a mess. So I was waiting to work on this til I had lots of sun and time but then I got obsessive over the diamond painting. So cutting myself off when I really want and am inspired to paint something is pretty painful and its a great way to never accidentally finish something or to lose your inspiration. After christmas I'm hoping I can get a better art space and more lights I guess or perhaps an seperate camera because I film everything on my phone. Idk but I was really inspired and kept forcing myself to put it off until I lost the drive. Fun.
But also, because these are neon-ish colors and me, having attempted to scan in neon type colors before I did know that my scanner was probably not going to pick the brightness of them so I did plan for that as well. I did mix in a lot of my standard pastel watercolors with them as a back up. My intuition was correct though and the fluorescence did not scan but the dullness still looks fine on the computer screen so I consider that a success. They are a bit brighter in real life though.
but anyway, thanks paul rubens for sending me stuff. I also did use my neon 80s schmincke set a bit as well. Every tube exploded from both sets and I got paint everywhere they were jammed so full of paint.
I ran out of time this week but I need to edit the video in which I painted this and upload it. Thats going to take me all day.
