Horton Court is located in South Gloucestershire, England. The 16th century stone manor was built from the remains of a 12th century Norman hall. The home was built in 1521 by Reverend William Knight, a member of Henry VIII’s court. The Norman Hall has twin Romanesque doorways. The garden’s loggia retains its original masonry and depicts the busts of Caser, Nero, Hannibal, and Attila the Hun. In the early 18th century, an upper floor was added over the great hall, which joined the hall and the house and created a chapel. The manor switched ownership several times throughout its history, with the last owner Hilda Wills, daughter of tobacco magnate Sir Alfred Wills, leaving the house to the National Trust in 1909. The house has six bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a playroom. The property boasts a private garden, a lake, and a four-bedroom cottage. The manor is decorated with oak paneling, wood-carvings, exposed brickwork, and Pastiche ceiling work. Horton Court is privately owned and not open to the public. The manor is a venue for small private parties.
