President Snow. Snow is the man who took everything away from him. Everything he ever loved. Everything he ever wanted. His whole life. Sometimes he thinks heâd give up literally anything and everything to be the man who gets to kill Snow. Sometimes he finds himself thinking that Katniss doesnât really deserve the chance to, because so many have lost so much more under Snowâs rule. Itâs easy to let his mind wander to darker thoughts and he canât help but feel like killing Snow is a right that belongs to those who have suffered more; lost more; have been trapped in the Games for years, decades longer. Killing Snow feels like avenging his family, but the fact that the right is snatched from his hands by a child whoâs barely even felt the full reach of Snowâs power â it makes him feel like heâs failed his family all over again. But those are his darker thoughts on his worst days. He loves Katniss. He wants to keep her safe. If killing Snow is what she needs, heâd rather let her have the chance for that closure rather than take it himself. Even when her arrow pierces the chest of the other President (a call he knew she would make, in truth), he knows he must protect her first and give up the one chance he will ever have, when all hell breaks loose and heâs free to charge forward with the crowd or follow the men dragging her away. It has to be the latter, every time. Heâs resigned himself to never have peace. Thatâs a sacrifice any parent would make.Â
