My morning ritual since I built this water feature 8 weeks ago. I get up, make a cup of coffee and enjoy the peace and quiet. As the pond has gotten established the amount of wildlife that visits has increased exponentially. I know get to share my time with tiny frogs and toads that were born in the pond. It’s been nice to feed them as tadpoles and watch them undergo metamorphosis. It is a reminder of change and how it may be frightening, it leads us to a better place. Big, nasty surfaces. This lidded jar was calling out for some stank added to make those transfers standout and be interesting. This piece started with just underglaze transfers added to the greenware and then bisqued. When it came out it was just blah and plain, so I waxed over the corrosive stickers and skulls, so I could apply a layer of porcelain slip. Which helped but was still boring, so it was time to get nasty with underglazes. Now it’s not boring. On to another bisque firing and see what more I can do to it. Early mornings mean cold mornings in the studio. Today it was a balmy 46 degrees, combine that with applying underglaze transfers and loading green ware and you get some frosty fingers. But hey a makers got to make especially when there is a kiln that needs to be fired this weekend so I can have more work for Peter Anderson fest.
