Has anyone made sykkuno fanart with cat ear headphones yet?
Ppl really be like "its ok to ship real people together" and then will look at Louis and Harry or Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan and be like "yeah, we aren't the one who ruined their friendships"
(this got long so i'm adding: i'm using rpf to refer to both fanfiction and fanart of real people. just to be clear.)
"publicly writing ship rpf - especially if it's not an AU or something similar, and double especially if it's NSFW - can be harmful to fans and other creators alike, even if the main people in the fic are fine with shipping" and "technically as long as the people in the fic are fine with it, there's nothing wrong with rpf" are two takes that can and should coexist, actually
like... obviously first off if ur just writing a non-shippy medieval AU based on people who have said that they are perfectly fine with fics about them. that's fine. but if you're writing an nsfw ship fic about the actual people themselves? and the fanbase is primarily young teens? like... at least keep that to urself. if the people it's about are fine with it there's nothing "wrong" with it, but like... sometimes... there are consequences to your actions. if u put something on the internet it's there forever. i guarantee that someone who isn't supposed to see it *will* see it, whether that's an underaged fan or the people it's about, and you don't need me to tell you that that's not good. if you don't want those people to see it, then don't publish it! especially if you know that the people it's about regularly read fics about them! if you want other people to read it then send it to people who ask or smth.
and then of course if you write rpf or draw ships of real people, it encourages that behavior in other people too. i can tell you from personal experience that getting shipped with someone you aren't interested in BY SOMEONE YOU KNOW PERSONALLY when you have *said* not to do it is weird!! and rpf, actively or not, makes some people think it's fine to ship *anyone*, even people who are uncomfortable with it. yeah, maybe that's not the intent, but it's what happens.
are there people who ship real people that respect others' boundaries? yes. but there are plenty of people who don't. with the rise of youtubers like Dream who tell their fans that it's ok to ship real people, rpf that oversteps boundaries is becoming a real issue in many fandom spaces. there's nothing automatically bad about writing fics about people who are fine with it; the bad part is the effect that rpf has on people.
