Please remember that if you are a healthy person, coronavirus will be unpleasant but not dangerous. The drastic measures taken are about protecting those who are at risk: immunocompromised persons, those with pre-existing illnesses, senior citizens of 60+ years.

Face masks DO NOT prevent you from catching coronavirus. But they DO prevent you from spreading your infection if you have it (or the flu). You don't need to panic buy toilet paper! Use your showerhead if you run out and give your toilet paper to those in quarantine.

If you could be infected, DO NOT visit your 60+ parents or your immunocompromised friends, even if you don't have symptoms! You could carry coronavirus and put them in the hospital! We only have so many respiratory devices in any given country, we can't treat everyone at once!

That is why measures are taken to prevent infection. Not because coronavirus is the new Black Death. It's to keep those who NEED a hospital to survive out of harm's way so that those who ARE infected can get the resources and manpower to keep them alive!
