Copyright Law
To avoid plagiarism, we must take note of and value copyright when doing schoolwork and searching for various information online. Copyright is a type of intellectual property that protects original works of authorship once they are fixed in a tangible form of expression. There are numerous types of works in copyright law, including paintings, photographs, illustrations, musical compositions, sound recordings, computer programs, books, poems, blog posts, movies, architectural works, plays, and much more.
The Philippine copyright law or officially known as the Republic Act No. 8293 is based on the copyright law of the United States. The Philippine copyright law also protects trademarks, patents and even various forms of intellectual property. You might have also heard about the Optical Media Act, which aims to protect local artists against piracy. The same Act protects computer programs and video games. It includes the original works, derivative works and also those works not protected.
The value of copyright is an essential component of the modern educational experience. Copyright is important because it protects the value of an author's/academic's/work researcher's by allowing the creator of the work to protect it from unlicensed or uncredited use. This prevents their work from being copied to the point where they cannot effectively sell it or receive credit for it. Copyright, in this sense, fosters intellectual creativity by providing an incentive for a creator to work freely, allowing them to gain recognition for their work while also protecting their livelihood. Because copyright protects most of the works that students engage with and rely upon, it is important that students understand the basics of copyright law, what constitutes infringement and to know when exceptions to the copyright owner's rights under copyright apply.
Anti-Bullying Act of 2013
Bullying is defined as any repeated or severe use of a verbal, electronic, or written expression, or a physical gesture or act that can cause physical or emotional harm to the victim by one or more students. Bullying is also perceived as creating an unwelcoming environment for the other student, which can affect the educational process. The Republic Act No. 10627, also known as the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013,was signed by then-President Benigno Aquino III and requires all elementary and secondary schools to implement policies to prevent and address bullying in their institutions. This act addresses concern among parents, teachers, and even students who are bullied. The anti-bullying act ensures that such cases will no longer go unnoticed.
Bullying's problematic aspects have received national attention in recent years. Unfortunately, bullying is still a problem. Countless people are constantly exposed to the dramatic consequences and aftereffects of bullying. People have committed suicide in some of the worst-case scenarios, believing that it is the only way to escape their bullies. For these and other reasons, an anti-bullying culture has never been more imperative. There appears to be a light at the end of the tunnel in the case of bullying. More and more people are standing up to bullying, speaking out against it, and encouraging others to do the same. It is essential to consider that silence, inaction, and indifference are some of the most powerful enablers of bullying. Every time someone stands up and denounces bullying, they take one step closer to putting an end to it. It saves lives first and foremost. Students must be aware if they are experiencing bullying in order to do some actions by the help of their friends, parents, teachers and other people who can help them.
Republic Act 101751
Cybercrime is a real thing. Every day, it occurs. This are offenses committed against a person or a group of people, a government. Cybercrime is motivated by criminal intent. it is intended to harm a victim's reputation. It can also cause physical or mental harm to a victim, either directly or indirectly, by utilizing the amazing technology we have available to us, such as The Internet, chat rooms, emails, message boards, groups, social networking, and even our mobile phones.
President Aquino signed Republic Act 10175, also known as the "Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012," on September 12, 2012. It was implemented in the Philippines to finally penalize cybersex, child pornography, identity theft, and unsolicited electronic communication. The provisions of Republic Act 10175 are reasonable, given that its intentions are to protect the integrity and safety of the public. RA 10175 punishes content-related offenses such as cybersex, child pornography, and libel committed via a computer system. It also punishes unsolicited commercial communication or content that promotes or sells goods or services. However, there are exceptions for sending unsolicited material: it is not a crime if the recipient gives prior consent, the communication is an announcement from the sender to users, and there is an easy, reliable way for the recipient to reject it, among other things.
All in all, being aware of copyright laws, the Anti-bullying Act of 2013, and Republic Act 101751, is especially important for students who are experiencing this. This blog's purpose is to inform you about the laws that must be followed in order to avoid plagiarism, bullying, and cybercrime, all of which have penalties for those who do not follow. This are all essential for publication requirements in the light of digital age.
