I’ve commented in the past about how modern genetics is redrawing our understanding of plant relationships. Until recently all the rockcresses were in one genus. More recent evaluations of the relationships among these species using genetic data suggest there are two major groups within the old genus Arabis. These two groups are not each other's closest relatives, so have been split into two separate genera. Most of the Old World members remain in the genus Arabis, whereas most of the New World members have been moved into the genus, Boechera.
I wouldn’t stake my reputation on it but I believe this is a Boechera breweri. As you might of guessed, it’s a coastal plant and formerly found no farther north than Oregon. However, global warming is a fact and I found this specimen growing a few kilometers from the US border at Crescent Beach. The way things are going, it will be growing in Alaska by the turn of the century. Let’s try to make sure that doesn’t happen. Good luck to the delegates at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (Cop 26) in Glasgow over the next two weeks. This may be our last chance.
UN to put pressure on Brazil over COP26 indigenous threats
The Brazilian government will be targeted by United Nations investigators after allegations that indigenous leaders were threatened during COP26, the high-stakes climate summit held by the UN last year in Glasgow. Brazil’s official participation in the event was overshadowed by passionate speeches made by indigenous critics of Jair Bolsonaro.
Per website UOL, a UN report acknowledges that Alessandra Korap Munduruku — an indigenous activist from the southern Amazon — received threats and was verbally attacked by an unidentified man after her involvement in COP26. Intimidation only became worse after she returned to Brazil: her house’s electricity was cut off, then invaded, ransacked, and vandalized.

On day two of COP 26 in Glasgow, the Prince of Wales took on a full day of events. To start the Prince of Wales gave a speech during the World Leaders Action on Forests and Land Use Event. Before the event, he also met with representatives of Indigenous Peoples Group. Charles also hosted a Commonwealth Leaders reception for the 54 commonwealth countries as well as the Sustainable Markets Initiative CEO’s. Throughout the day he also continued holding bilateral meetings with the Prime Ministers of Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Jamaica, Sierra Leone as well as the President of the United States.
