Yum☆Yum☆Yummys

The curtain parts to reveal... The Yummys were just toys all along! But man how cute they are…. Too bad Snatchy doesn’t get their own little plushie too :( Before I even saw the actual card artwork on the gacha machine, I noticed that the middle machine is recreating the scene featured in Cupsy☆Yummy Way. I actually recognized it specifically because I saw the green one falling lol (sorry little guy) while the base red variant is being lifted by the Snatchy claw. Extremely cute little detail. I love the design of the gacha machines themselves; they're colored exactly like Snatchy's spacesuit, which includes the light up portions! The allusion is complete with the addition of Catcher-kun and the colorful UFO tractor beam to the top of every machine. And of course, there’s the Snatchy claw itself, which I feel really drives home the intention behind Snatchy’s design (their arms being like the claw part of a claw machine for example). I already love the Yummys, but they’re even cuter as little plushies lol.

Floowandereeze and the Unexplored Winds

This card looks so unexpectedly like a Pokemon card?? Like... Some sorta slightly more stylized scene pulled right out of a Mystery Dungeon game. The style is also different from the rest of the Floowandereeze cards, which have the Floowandereeze birds (and others) rendered in a style that makes them look like they were pasted over linelessly painted backgrounds. This one, however, forgoes any thick outlines and depth providing shadows for the three terns, instead merging them with the usual background style. This lends itself to the scene's calmness, as this card is supposed to be the end of their journey. As for specific details, I love how the sun's glow and its reflections have an angular nature to them, which (along with their brightness) adds some contrast to the softer and darker forms. I don't know exactly what's going on with the clouds(?) in the background, but they're interesting, at least. I can't tell if they're meant to be rolling off of mountains or are kinda melding with giant waves but still: interesting. And hey, the color scheme is great, too! I love how the colors very clearly delineate the foreground, middle ground, and background of this.

Goddess Urd's Verdict

On today's issue of "I Didn't Realize They Made These Into Real Cards," we have: most of those Valkyrie cards Zigfried uses, including this one. Urd has experienced a major glow up from her original artwork's appearance, but she still gets to keep her major charm points, namely: her ultra cute hairstyle and the full view of her mystical staff (if they put the whole thing in there for Urd why couldn't they do it for Erda....?). Her confident pose holds so much power, and although her expression is a touch softer now, it really suits her. I do like the softer/subtler pink used for her dress in her physical anime appearance better, but that doesn't mean I hate the colors here. In fact, I really like the color and shading enhancement her staff experienced, especially on the big central orb. It somehow looks vaguely like the Earth now, which is fitting for her role as one of the three Norns (goddesses of fate). With the altered background colors, different speedline rendering, and all the sparkles, I can't help but think it looks like she's on stage somewhere.

Royal Penguins Garden

I've been looking at this card for a while now while typing this review and I just unquestioningly thought that the centerpiece bird fountain depicted a penguin. Because of the card's name. Just me here looking at this bird with huge ass wings going "yeah I believe that's a penguin." I guess that's just a testament to how much I like this card. It's so cute! Easily the cutest part is the cartoony penguin heads painted onto the big hedges. I love that the sky gets very soft outlines for the (absolutely adorable) penguin clouds and light rays, while the buildings and such get harder and solid looking line work. I do feel like the contrast between the lineart and the pastel colors makes parts of this look a little wonky, mainly talking about the purple outlines used towards the bottom. The grayish blue used further up meshes better with the color palette honestly. There's also something about the red used for some of the rooftops that's throwing me off, but I couldn't tell you exactly what.

Icejade Curse

I'll be real, I don't really like the washed out look this card has. Looking at some of the other Icejade cards (specifically Aegirine and Kosmochlor, who are featured in this card) makes it seem even more glaring. There's just so much color and value differences there that this card has extremely little of, even with Aegirine (who's primarily white colored). The only part that stands out even a little is the remains of Kosmochlor, which I guess is kinda the point, but she's fairly small and tucked away into the corner, and additionally, the white reflections from the background just make her blend in as well, especially towards the top. I guess I just wish that this card had stronger outlines around everything (a la Oracle of the Herald, which also has lots of pastel colors but maintains so much definition, or even Soul of the Supreme Celestial King, which has bits of darker color scattered throughout to break up the ultra brightness).

Spring of Rebirth

Finally. For once, Konami said "Naked allowed." Although I guess to be fair, there’s really nothing to see, and thus no reason to censor anything. Not that this fact has stopped them previously (or even with much more recent cards).

Anyway, I really like the framing of this card. The intended view of this scene is probably something like “a winged humanoid stands guard over this magic healing fountain,” but I feel like “person leaps out of fountain, newly healed, showing off their sick new wings.” I mean, why else would they have that blue radiant effect, right? I think this card would look better without the Matrix looking green and black blobby background, as it really does look completely separate from everything else.
