Hii, how are you? So i know this is a stupid question but.... knt is over? There are 123 chapters? Will they realease more chapters or thats the end?
Hi @contagiousbr!! :) I’m doing pretty well, and I hope you are too!
That’s not a stupid question at all! The regular serialization / main story of Kimi ni Todoke is over; Chapter 123 will be the final chapter in the final volume of the series (Volume 30, March 2018 release in Japan).
However, it was announced that we’ll be getting an extra something in April 2018. The announcement implies that we might get to see the characters in the future, but that could mean anything from a side story set during their university years to one set after they graduate (or years after they graduate). Betsuma (Bessatsu Margaret), the magazine in which Kimi ni Todoke was published, releases extra goodies with each issue (schedule books, mini file folders, pencil cases, etc.); sometimes the “extra” is a mini manga volume containing side stories or one-off chapters, things like that. At the moment, I would guess that this extra Kimi ni Todoke story will come bundled as an extra with the May 2018 Issue (April), but I have no idea if it’ll be a long story, a short story, or a series of stories focusing on each couple / certain characters.
All I know is that we’re getting a bit more of the story, but I would think of it as an epilogue rather than a full-blown continuation of the series. This is purely speculation, but because Kimi ni Todoke ran for 12 years and has become something of a shoujo classic, I think Betsuma / the publishers want to drag out its ending for as long as they can. It lets fans slowly say goodbye to a beloved series while still enticing people to continue buying the magazine. Given the heavy foreshadowing in the manga, I think Shiina always planned on showing us an epilogue, but releasing it this way is MUCH more profitable for the magazine.
Thank you for asking!
