In all honesty I don’t think in this day and age of the “anti woke” agenda we would be able to get blatant commentary on how gun violence shapes youth and how although the people in power will say how it needs to end they won’t take the necessary steps for it to never happen again.
And I think although it can be silly and lighthearted at times young justice is also a great piece of media that I’d like to consider to be very progressive at times with its topics. At its core it’s a story on how the youth are meant to change the world even if it’s a fictional story about teen superheroes. And although comics are entertainment they were originally meant to comment on social issues so it’s just really interesting and nice to see how each generation of comics takes on said challenge.
Overall I’d say Cissie is one of my favorite members of the young justice gang and I enjoy her complexity and depth when it comes to handling her sudden onslaught of grief and her issues with her mom. How she feels like she’s very headstrong and not afraid to stand up for what she believes in while also being afraid of that same trait for fear of what she’s capable of because of it.
I think her and Kon getting along makes so much sense when I read their interactions and compare their characters side by side.

Cheshire was bonding with her daughter in a musical way because I'm a grown woman who's a fan of Disney Descendants.
Cheshire (singing): This is not for us to ponder / This was preordained—
Roy (looking around): Where is the music coming from?
Barbara: She paid me fifty bucks to set this up on speakers!
Roy: Gee thanks, Babs!
Barbara (taking that as a compliment): You're welcome!
Cheshire ignored her ex-husband, continuing to sing surprisingly well while walking toward Lian. Holding out her hand, she invited her daughter to a bit of wickedness.
Cheshire (singing): You and I shall rule together / Freedom soon regain / Mistress of the universe, powerful and strong—
Roy: When could you sing like Glinda?
Dick: Hit the high notes, queen!
Roy: Do not encourage her!
Talia: Yes, she's making a fool of- OW!
Cheshire hip checked Talia, continuing to sing.
Cheshire (taking her daughter's hand, singing): Daughter, hear me / Help me, join me / Won't you sing along?
Lian gripped her mom's hand and began singing along while doing the can-can dance.
Lian and Cheshire (singing and dancing evilly): Now we're gonna be evil, it's true / Never gonna think twice / And we're gonna be spiteful.
Cheshire (sweetly, patting her daughter's head): Yes, spiteful. That's nice.
Cheshire winked at her daughter, then spun on her heel, finishing her song.
Cheshire (skipping while singing): Who wants an evil queen? Without a sack of sins?
Roy: That line isn't said there!
Donna: Why do you know that?
Roy: I… I was bored and watched the movies. Jade-
Lian: Daddy, shush! Bring it home, Mama!
Cheshire (singing flawlessly): If you wanna be evil and awful and free / Then you should thank your lucky star / That you were born the girl you are.
Cheshire did a high circle spin kick, then spun to face her daughter.
Cheshire (finishing the song): The daughter of an evilicious queen like meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
With that, Cheshire put her hands on her hips and nodded proudly. The crowd of heroes and Talia was silent. Dick broke the silence by clapping, many other supes started applauding the villainous talented singer.
Cheshire: I have always wanted to do that!
Dick: That was really good.
Cheshire: Aww, that means a lot coming from you, Nightwing. Thank you.
Talia (dismissive): She wasn't that good. A bit pitchy. Sounded like a cat thrown in a bathtub. Right, Damian?
Damian: Yeah, amateur. And Lian, weak as well.
Lian: Your jealousy is showing. Womp, womp.
Damian: We've been over this! Don't womp womp me!
Talia: Yes, don't womp my baby!
Lian and Cheshire both blew raspberries at the mother and son, making the ninjas incensed.
Bruce (eating cake): I'm glad we invited them now. This is entertaining.
Clark: You invited them?
Roy (close to Donna): I invited Cheshire to spend time with Lian, but this is pretty funny.
Meanwhile...
Lian: My mama is better than yours. She can sing, she's prettier, and she's probably got more kills than you. Rumi status confirmed!
Cheshire: That's right, my little huntrix.
Damian: Listen here, you Huntrix reject. I am the leader of whatever group I'm in, and that means I am Rumi! You are background vocals.
Talia: That's right, Habibi. Who is Rumi?
Damian: The lead singer from K-pop Demon Hunters, remember, we watched the movie on Halloween.
Talia: I adore that movie. You are a fantastic leader like her and Jinu.
Cheshire (hands on her hips): Lying to your child like that only makes him grow up to be an annoying brat.
Lian: Grow up? He's already that with no aura.
Talia: You wanna go, little girl? I'll give you the discipline my father gave to me! Don't test me!
Cheshire picked up Lian and held her close to her body.
Cheshire: Touch my star and I'll kill you and your daddy.
Damian: You will not touch them! Get her, Mama!
Talia: I've been waiting for you to say that. Cheshire, put your adorable seed down and know your place.
Cheshire: Girl, bye.
Lian: You can take her, Mama.
Cheshire nodded, gingerly placing Lian on the ground. Cheshire cleared her throat, grabbed a plate of cake, and hurled the slice right at Talia. The cake hit the assassin in the face, leaving a sticky frosting residue.
Gasps echoed around the family gathering. Bruce wanted to step in but decided to wait.
Bruce: I'm going to sit down and enjoy this.
Hal: I'll join ya.
Clark wanted to break up the impending food fight, but it was food for now and he was into this type of drama as a reality show watcher.
Clark: No slapping, guys.
Talia took a deep breath, wiping cake off her face. Dick sneaked over to Cheshire and slammed another plate of cake into Talia's face.
Dick: I've been wanting to do that since she got here! Here ya go, new bestie.
Dick handed Cheshire a cup of fruit punch to toast their new friendship.
Cheshire: Thanks. Look at her standing there. She's shook.
Talia: Dami, hand me that plate of lasagna.
Damian (passing it over to his mother): Already got two plates. Sorry, Dick, but you're on the wrong side today.
Lian: Oh, we're not battling empty-handed! Food fight! Team my awesome mom or Damian's L mom!
Kara: Woo! Let's go!
Kara shoved Kori's head into the punch bowl.
Kara: Sorry, you were the closest to me.
Kori (after spitting out her punch): Understandable. You shall also understand that I'm on my Dickie bear's side. Eat cake!
Kori smushed a big slice of cake in Kara's face. Damian had already smeared lasagna on Dick's face, and Cheshire and Talia were trading food, coating each other in a new layer of it.
Wally: Unc—
Barry (sitting): I'm not stopping you. Have fun.
Wally raced over, grabbing random food. Bart was restrained by his grandfather.
Bart: I want to join. Grandpa, please.
Barry: There can't be two speedsters.
Tim took a seat next to Bruce.
Tim: I'm more locked into this Kalashi trading. I'm at two thousand so far.
Bruce: That's good to hear. If you win big let me know, I've been wanting to try that site out.
Konnor stood next to Clark.
Konnor: I've been reading Ruby Dixon books. They're pretty good. How are the Colleen books?
Clark: Fantastic. I read her latest one about a former drug addict dating her husband's brother.
Konnor: Damn, Colleen is stepping up her game.
Meanwhile...
Donna: We should step in.
Roy (not moving his hand from Donna's hip): Mm. Or... or we don't do that.
Donna (eager but hiding it): That is a better idea. Get 'em, Lian!
