Dominus et Deus noster Iesus Christus, et Dei Genetrix Maria Virgo, cum duobus imperatoribus Constantino et Iustiniano.
Opus tessellatum, Hagia Sophia.
Is Phoenicia based on Greece or Rome?
It’s actually most similar to the Byzantine Empire, which was descended from the Eastern Roman Empire but had a culture based more on Ancient Greece than Rome, and was also Orthodox Christian (many people in Phoenicia wear crosses on their clothing). The capital of Constantinople fell in 1453, which is consistent with SnA’s approximate historical time frame.
Despite referring to themselves as Romans, by this point the Byzantines had been speaking Greek for over 800 years.
Constantinople was known for its ancient stone walls, thought to be impregnable until the Ottoman Turks arrived with cannons. The Empire had endured hostile relations with both the Turks and the Venetians, which Kotono swapped in her storyline to be friendly. Like Phoenicia, the Byzantines were also known much more as a maritime power than the Romans had been. Magistros Constantinus is probably named after Emperor Constantine the Great, responsible for renaming Constantinople after himself, and the Byzantine Empire had senior officials with the title “Magistros”. The Byzantines also invented Greek Fire (Phoenix Fire).
So it would seem that Ancient Phoenicia is based on the Roman Empire, eventually becoming the Byzantine Empire which displayed a mixture of Greco-Roman cultures. Its name is Ancient Greek, perhaps taken from the Western Mediterranean civilisation of Phoenicia (Φοινίκη, Phoiníkē) active from 2500 BC to 539 BC when it was conquered by Cyrus the Great, Emperor of Persia.
Thought of the Day: A moment of laxity spawns a lifetime of heresy.
Can you write a scenario where Doge Antonio visit Constantinus's grave?
Of course! Sorry it’s a bit short, but I got the feels across lol Also spoilers for anyone who hasn’t read the manga!
“This way please, Doge.” The young man who was escorting Antonio Lucio spoke in a somber tone. It wasn’t easy visiting this place for anyone in Phoenicia.
After following the path, they arrived. The man bowed slightly and took his leave.
The moment Doge Antonio looked upon the grave, he was overwhelmed. He didn’t think he would be, but he was. Constantinus’ death was his fault. He knew that now.
Antonio knows that it was the right choice for Venedik at the time, but feeling these things now, was it worth it? He chose not to send that fleet on time, and because of that, Phoenicia fell, and with it, Constantinus.
So many thoughts and what ifs ran through the Doge’s head right now. If he had supported Constantinus when could have, would he be alive? Would he be helping them fight the empire now?
Antonio knelt in the dirt and placed a hand on the tombstone. With a bowed head, he paid his respects.
