it should not have taken me over an hour to make this
Trying to read Son of Oscar Wilde and crying at ever word. I know he wrote it as an adult but my heart is bleeding for the child Vyvyan was. I just cannot stop thinking about Vyvyan eleven, confused and alone, his own history suddently a mistery. Just a shy sweet kid versus a dark reality.
(And for Constance that just wanted the best for her kids and couldn't even watch them became adults. And for poor Cyril that tried to protect himself in toxic masculinity and just died for it. And for Oscar who heard his babies were better without him when they were not).
Learning what a shitty person Oscar Wilde was to his wife is honestly like someone punched me in the gut. I remember this man being romanticized in my high school English classes, and I now find it appalling.
#OTD in 1895 – Oscar Wilde was arrested, in the Cadogan Hotel, London, after losing a libel case against John Sholto Douglas (9th Marquess of Queensberry), who had called Wilde a homosexual.

Constance my girl how did you not know Oscar was dicking down the homies?
here is a sweet letter from Oscar to his eldest son Cyril, in 1891, Who was aged five at the time.
Writing from Paris, he remarks that he is going ‘to visit a poet, who has given me a wonderful book about a Raven’. The poet was Mallarmé and the book was a translation of Poe’s The Raven. Signed ‘your loving Papa, Oscar Wilde’, it is the only known surviving letter from Wilde to either of his children. Wilde became estranged from his sons following his imprisonment in 1895 and saw neither Cyril nor Vyvyan again.
It is a pity that this boy later was ashamed (so to speak) of his wonderful father, this is most likely due to the influence of Constance.
