đ â a childhood memory.
Her father's large hand was warm around hers. Padmé turned seven years old last week, this was her first trip off-planet with her father for the Refugee Relief Movement. Even though this was a mid-rim planet, it had suffered from a civil war and the Senate barely helped at all.
"It's important that you see these things, Padmé," Ruwee said, gesturing at dilapidated buildings. The rooves were broken down, barely any protection from the elements. How could anyone live in these, she wondered. They must be very cold and sad.
"Naboo is a blessed paradise. We are very fortunate," her father continued and Padmé nodded. Yes, Naboo was beautiful. They haven't had a war in hundreds of years. Naboo was so peaceful, it did not even have an army. This was the first time Padmé saw a war zone firsthand, instead of on educational holovideos.
"As you can see, not everyone is as blessed as we are. We need to help where we can."
Yes, her father was right. Padmé nodded again, eagerly.
She felt her throat close when she saw a girl, probably about her age. Someone this young should not have a look of utter despair and exhaustion in their eyes. This girl probably lost her parents like many others. It made Padmé squeeze her father's hand. She couldn't bear the thought of losing him, ever.
"This is not fair," Padmé said. "These people did nothing wrong, right?"
"Life is not fair, Padmé," Ruwee had retorted and patted her brown curls comfortingly.
