De Salses a Guardamar i de Fraga a lâAlguer: les comarques de parla catalana una a una. 2/88: el Conflent (Northern Catalonia).
Conflent is a shire in the Pyrenee mountains of Northern Catalonia. Its capital city is Prades, and its central element is the CanigĂł mountain. The CanigĂł is considered a sacred mountain to Catalans, and is surrounded by legends and traditions.
The lineage that would become the House of Barcelona, and so originate Catalonia as we know it, was started in the town of Rià , in Conflent. Many of the most important places about the foundation of Catalonia are in this shire, such as the Abbey of Sant Miquel de Cuixà and the Abbey of Sant Martà del Canigó, where count Guifré el Pilós is buried.
