We had a near downing experience with Baby at the pool yesterday because of course we did. I am sort of crazy about pool safety with our kids due to a near drowning experience with E at the same pool several years ago.

E and H really want to swim without floaties on. However, because DH was gone yesterday, I was insistent that they wear them because I knew that I could not supervise them in a way that was safe without them wearing them (i.e. I was not in the pool with each of them at all times). Eventually, NB went to sleep and I put him safely in his stroller. We were packing up and E and H asked again. At that point my mom was at the pool with us, and she agreed to watch just them as they swam in a specific area of the pool. That all worked out fine.

What I didn’t anticipate was Baby getting into the pool without anyone noticing (because we were packing up and he was already done and out for the day). In retrospect, of course he would want to do exactly what E and H were doing, but he usually vocalizes that. Yesterday he said zero. Just walked back into the pool or slid in from the side (I’m not sure). I was literally sitting right next to the pool watching E and H. DD then noticed Baby in the pool and going under. She called his name, and I jumped in and grabbed him. He was terrified, but okay. I guess we will be creating a new pool rule for him when wrapping up swim time moving forward. Sheesh. Close call.

DH was offered a $1000 voucher to fly to Tampa instead of Ft Myers this morning. He took it. (Yay free future travel!) That meant I packed up all the kids and the car and got out of town by 10:30. His flight landed at 11:05 so he waited for us a bit but Tampa isn’t really out of the way for our return drive. We also got to experience the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Holy amazing! And also panic attack inducing! If you haven’t seen it, google it. It’s spectacular!
