the smell of roots speaking
we woke up one morning
to nature's rejection
vines | leaves | branches
grown faster than ever before
do you remember the way to the grocer's?
the road is gone
save a whisper, perhaps
a dent in the brush
do you remember the golf course?
a forest now-- trees grown so thick
so tall
it casts the sky green
look at the bones
the ocean's regurgitation of our sins:
the oil, the plastic, the bodies of those
we tried to hide
look at the vines
the farm overrun by flora
pulling apart the bars
letting the fauna run free
we woke up one morning
to the quiet of the jungle
birds | beetles | bushes
the voice of nature
the quiet of man

A rough poem inspired by this post by @conceptualsolitude:
concept: we wake up one day and nature has grown decades overnight. we can’t remember where the roads used to be. in some places the trees are so tall and thick we can barely see sky. the grass hasn’t been mowed in years. how quiet everything is now
