A Conac-MPOR 1/2023 havia sido publicada em agosto deste ano, como uma forma de limitar as operações no terminal, que fica no centro da cidade do Rio de Janeiro. A revogação foi publicada nesta quinta-feira (9), no Diário Oficial da União. Apesar de derrubar a resolução, o governo federal continuará mantendo restrições às operações do aeroporto, como o limite de passageiros a 6,5 milhões por ano. Em nota divulgada na quarta-feira (8), o Ministério de Portos e Aeroportos anunciou o limite, que passa a valer a partir de janeiro de 2024. Dados do governo federal mostram que, em 2022, o Santos Dumont movimentou cerca de 10 milhões de passageiros. Segundo o ministério, a decisão de mudar a regra foi tomada depois de um amplo debate com a prefeitura carioca, o governo fluminense, a Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil (Anac), o Tribunal de Contas da União (TCU), companhias aéreas, concessionárias de aeroportos e a Empresa Brasileira de Infraestrutura Aeroportuária (Infraero), estatal que administra o Santos Dumont. A imposição de limites à operação do Santos Dumont foi um pedido dos governos municipal e estadual do Rio, como uma forma de ampliar as operações no Aeroporto Internacional do Rio de Janeiro (Tom Jobim/Galeão), que vinha experimentando uma queda em sua movimentação nos últimos anos.
