I have a feeling that the movie Quezon is going to be relevant today because the main theme would be: ✨️American Propaganda✨️
I'm so excited about how well they're going to execute it. Waaahhh.
I'm ready.

Just got back from watching Quezon’s Game, a biopic telling the little-known story of how Manuel L. Quezon, second president of the Philippines, and his allies worked toward sheltering more than a thousand German and Austrian Jewish refugees in the Philippines. This film is the latest in a line of spectacularly well-produced period dramas released in the 2010s and is a must-watch.
If I had to complain, though, it’s that they didn’t hold a lot of interior scenes in the actual surviving Manila landmarks from the Commonwealth Era, with the only one ever shown being what I assume was a scene in the Manila Hotel.
while you were finding comfort in the hope, that I would calm down,
APH Ukraine
Did Poland and Ukraine like each other? I mean in Hetalia, because in history not so much I think? Thanks! :)
No problem!
I’m not the best person to ask about this because I don’t actually remember if Poland and Ukraine ever interacted in the anime (or the webcomic) - anyone else wanna help?
But since you did ask me, my headcanon is that they’re… almost-friends nowadays. Well, friends depending on the situation. Mostly friends! (And of course old issues might still be mentioned, like with all Hetalia - or anything country-related for that matter :’D)
So that’s modern day. In the past though, I imagine it was more like
poland: oh shit time to make ukraine’s life horrible
ukraine: fuck you
poland: there she go
aka they were enemies more-or-less-sometimes-it’s-complicated and Feliks was like “my vassal and/or enemy who’s hella cool but must be Defeated” and Ukraine was like “another day, another chance to do something about my long-standing resentment/hatred of Poland & his bullshit”
and later things got more complex - I think it’s absolutely fantastic to headcanon/write a romance between them, but for various reasons (mostly my lietpol obsession) I don’t usually do that myself!
sooo things are a little complicated but the end result is that I think they do definitely like each other (AT LEAST in the modern day) despite maybe occasionally denying that when asked! Also they - and they’d both definitely deny the hell out of this - have experienced a lot of… well, character development, over the years not necessarily for the better, just… change, and this probably… it’s not so easy for either of them to just unthinkingly “label”/”categorize” the other as it was in the past, what with all this constant change in the dynamic of the relationship/interaction?? and…. yeah the past few centuries have been quite a trip
(((OH and when they were both stuck being variously oppressed by the Russian Empire, Poland was definitely in vocal support of Ukraine’s various Cossack rebellions (nice change of pace there Feliks) and I have no historical basis for that opinion but I’m 99% certain it’s true)))
*stares longingly into the distance* when will someone draw aph ukraine in bohun’s wardrobe

Oh, nice!! I’ll have to check them out :D
update: here on youtube!
"Кубанский казачий хор - Там шли два брата" Quite sad ukrainian song about cossack rebelion in 17th century. If you are interested this is a quite good repertoir of folk songs from that time "Кубанский казачий хор - Там шли два брата". It's really hard to find a decent ukrainian folk without all the disco vibes in it.
this song is excellent, thank you so much!!!
(here is the video I found for it and here are lyrics, it’s awesome, go check it out!)
