Vetch (Vicia sativa) - Common vetch, garden vetch, tare. Used as green manure and livestock fooder, it can be found growing in almost any location across Europe and North America, they grow abundantly in south east England. Known as poor mans peas, the flowers become pods containing 'peas', these peas are edible but must be eaten young as toxins build up within them the older they grow. Dried, soaked, boiled (change the water a few times) they can be eaten like normal peas as wild food. It has been used to treat eczema and skin irritations and also as an antiseptic.
