Motivational Monday: Jason Momoa was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was was discovered by international designer Takeo Kobayashi and Momoa became a model. At the age of 19, he was cast in Baywatch Hawaii and began his acting career. He has since held several amazing acting roles. Hiking is often portrayed as an activity for thin, fit people. It feels like an exclusive club to join. I say “Forget that! Do it fat!” On my first trip to REI as I was preparing for my dream trip to Portland, I stumbled upon a book “Fat Girls Hiking.” It’s an inclusive guide to getting outdoors at any size or ability. I read it often as a beautiful reminder that ANYONE can hike.
I loved seeing other women's liberation photos on their hikes. I wanted to do one too, but I kept putting milestones in my head. "Once I weight x, I'll be able to do it." "Once I tone up more, that's a thing I can do." One day, I decided I didn't need to keep putting off a thing i wanted to do. Do the thing. Do it fat.
Weekly Check-In
I have been a bit of a low-motivation zombie this week. The adrenaline of making big, exciting changes has worn off. Now all that’s left is doing the work. Man, doing the work consistently day after day is not nearly as exciting as starting a big new project. However, it’s the consistency that gets the results. Right?
So, even though it’s taken me longer to get off the couch and get to my workout, I still go. I’ve been late to every single workout class this week, but better late than never.
I’m still doing my 10k steps a day, 30 minutes of cleaning a day, and reading 10 pages a day. It’s so annoying during, but it feels amazing afterwards. I just gotta keep that in mind and keep going!
Happy Monday!! There is something amazing about doing the work in therapy and in life. I’ve been working my tail off to keep improving. It isn’t really noticeable day after day, but while revisiting this blog and looking at old photos of me it’s so apparent. There’s so many photos of me, thin and seemingly successful in college where shortly after the picture was taken I remember having a full blown mental breakdown or a horrible panic attack. Now, if I get triggered or have negative thoughts, I’ve learned to turn the page in my mind. I’m not seeking an ever elusive constant state of happiness. I’m just enjoying my life and the highs and lows that come with it
