#I mean. ok. it probably looks like the same style to anyone but me fnfjjcnf BUT I can feel the difference #I'm going a little harder on the lighting this time around #for part 1 I needed to simplify it bc otherwise I'd never finish it. bc it'd take longer yk #and it was my first time doing a comic so I NEEDED to finish it. that was like. top priority ekkfkfkck #so simplifying things wherever I could(while still liking the result yk) rlly helped me #but now that I feel more confident in my ability to actually go through with it and finish all the pages #I can get a little fancier with it :] at least I feel like it's safe to do so now #I'm really enjoying that so far tho bc even tho it takes longer. I do like the way things look w complex lighting a lot better #I'm also trying to improve on my page layouts. I think I can make their compositions look better #I love pt 1 but there's a lot of things I look back on now and think 'oh I could've done this or that a little better'#so yk. we're on that journey now #ALSO GOD I haven't posted any updates in months but if you were wondering if pt 2 is still on the table it absolutely is fnvjkc #I've been working on it since january #just been trying a new method where I try to get most of the pages storyboarded & sketched out before even touching the lineart brush #at LEAST most of them yk #so that means it takes longer until I actually have something 'finished' to show fjfkkbd but I have a lot of sketches so far ☝🏻#just nothing I'm particularly like 'yeah this is at the stage where I wanna show it to ppl'#like. it all needs more time to cook. but progress is being made ☝🏻😤#sleep.txt #viper comic #sketch tag #comic process

Quick process post: the final, colored art for a couple of panels in OUTLAW'S APPRENTICE, the original art for it, and the digital roughs I used to... I was gonna say "write it," but I think I'll say "compose" it. The dialogue, moment choice, the composition, it's all the "writing" but that term suggests that the words and overarching story are driving things, but how the image is laid on the page both affects and is affected by those words.

How much room there is in the compositional space between one character and another dictates how much dialogue either speaks and a necessary line might compositionally suggest that a character has to perform a physical movement in order to provide the space for that balloon, and that movement may well dictate how the scene plays out (climbing a wall, for instance, and thus being in a position to see over it).

Everything affects everything else (or can, if you allow it to do so), and so often the term "writing" suggests a stage that precedes roughs rather than writing THROUGH them. So "composing" might be my favorite term for it.

(I'll think on this some more and maybe write a longer essay about it on Patreon, but for now, I'm off to Lexington for the comic show! Hope to see you there)
