"Hey, just curious, mateβ is all that fuckin' smugness a Belgian thing or just a you-specific thing?" Dave takes a puff of his cigarette before continuing: "'Cause it's really fuckin' arsey."

βYou know, itβs funny because Iβve never learned how to play any instruments in all this time.β Drew exhales a cloud of smoke as he leans back in the armchair, grinning over at Chloe. He generally tries to avoid the company of other vampires, because he doesnβt care for their egos, but she seems alright for now, and theyβve obviously had the same idea to try and blend in.Β βI donβt think Iβm a particularly good singer either, butβ thatβs the nice thing about punk, isnβt it? Anything fuckinβ goes. My bandmates keep joking that Iβm a vampire, and I just humor them and laugh along, but if only they reallyΒ knew.β He flicks the ashes off the end of his cigarette.Β βWhat about yours? Do they suspect anything?β

βI need new strings for my guitar. Itβs fucked. Come to think about it, I need a new guitar, but unless Santaβs real and Iβve been a very good boy this year, I donβt think itβs going to happen.β Harry doesnβt look up from his guitar, carefully surveying the sorry state of the strings on the hand-me-down instrument. Heβs too broke to buy new strings, let alone a whole new guitar, until he gets paid next week. And thatβs not to mention the leak in his apartment ceiling that he needs to fix. Itβs all gone wrong for Harry, but he doesnβt complainβ he never does, just tuning the guitar carefully, trying not to snap the strings.

β Izora? You need to leave. Now. It's not safe. β
A BRIEF MOMENT OF GENUINE SURPRISE AT SPOTTING A FAMILIAR FACE, FOLLOWED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY BY THE REALISATION THAT, IF SHE WAS HERE, SHE WAS IN DANGER. In an instant, he was surveying their surroundings - a perfectly ordinary street corner in downtown Brooklyn on any other day of the week, but tonight, it was a little too close to the epicentre of the entity he and the rest of the team were pursuing.
BEFORE HE COULD SAY OR DO ANYTHING ELSE, HOWEVER, HE WAS BEING GRABBED. the proton pack on his back was soon pressed against him as it made contact with the side of the nearby store, the air being pushed out of his lungs in the process. Allowing himself a second to register the developing situation - and found Izora with her arms splayed, her attention on the large, glowing mass slowly gliding towards them, their translucent skeletal form dressed in a long, dark, tattered robe.
β No! β
THE URGE TO PROTEST WAS INSTINCTIVE. Not wanting to put his own hands on her and forcibly haul her out of the way, he instead tried to reason with her, hoping that this was nothing more than a spontaneous reaction borne from adrenaline.
β He'll kill you if he gets the chance to. You need to run. Go! Let me handle this! β
don't you ever sleep? β for beppe from gianmarco !
βOf course I do,β Beppe replies, looking up at Marco. Heβs on his back, just now rolled out from underneath the car he was working on. βItβs almost like Iβm asleep now, all comfy on my back.β He cracks a sleepy smile, too lazy to get up without some help. It dims a little bit when he realizes itβs late.
βI could be askinβ you the same question. What are you doinβ up? Did you need me for somethinβ?β

@cometsdiner (Jade) meets a fan.
One fun thing about the multiverse was the endless different bands and songs to listen to. Recently he had been getting into The Martians, he liked the sound and appreciated what they are about. As such he had attended tonight's performance of theirs, and had been another grinning face in the crowd. Her style didn't stand out among a bunch of glam metalheads, so he was pretty confident that he hadn't been noticed in particular, yet.
It was afterwards that she sorted through the afterparty for one of the lead singers of the band Jade. Approaching them he was clapping. "That was a killer show! I'm a huge fan, Elias is the name,"
He extended a hand to casually shake if they wanted to. "I'd offer to buy you a drink or snack but they're giving the band that for free right? They better be for the business you guys just brought in," She chuckled.

His whole body tensed as Luca drew close to him once more, but he didn't move away, reluctantly accepting being fussed over. Orin knew it was just because he cared about his well-being, but it was such a strange sensation. How long had it been since he'd let someone take care of him without immediately lashing out? Without meeting their desire to console him in his low moments with contempt? He'd devoted years now to acting like nothing could get to him, to keeping even those that should have known him best at arm's length if not further.
Which, of course, had led to him the whole almost dying thing, but before that things had been going pretty smooth hadn't they? He was successful, had a girlfriend he...mostly cared about, and who he'd thought had at least been fond of him. An assumption not even he could entertain anymore with her running off with the runt who'd had every intention to let him die before having a change of heart.
Maybe he should have felt lucky, but mostly it was all just making him feel miserable, and he wanted to wallow in it. But that was hard to do when there were people so determined to show him they did, in fact, care about him.
"It's nothing new," he sighed, too tired to put up another wall. He shifted slightly to face Luca, though he could tell he wouldn't be able to do it for long before he started to feel guilty. And that was worse than pain. "If I'm not fucking up other people, I'm fucking up myself. Seeing how far I can push myself and anyone unfortunate enough to be around me. It's just how I am. Never got that close to dying before, but it was gonna happen eventually..."

"You'll have to tell me what that's like. Personally, I never really tried the whole 'being an adult' thing. Seems to be working out so far, but who knows? Other people might be onto something." Orin gave Marco's shoulder an affectionate, though perhaps a bit too hard, punch. Not intentionally as he might have once done, and more due to the fact that his limbs felt a bit detached from the rest of him. Which he supposed was a far better feeling that the new aches he was starting to feel. Getting older was satisfying in a way, but he had to admit he was missing a bit of the spryness he once had.
"Baby bro is getting to be so grown up, I can hardly believe it," he added with over the top sentimentality, as he went in to wrap his arm around his friend's shoulders pulling him in close for a hug. This time he managed to keep himself from getting too rough, allowing sentimentality to creep in as he felt himself lean some of his weight against Marco's side. It might not have been poetic, but it just felt good to have him there, to have someone who really knew him actually want to be around him still. There were a number of years where that number was dangerously low, but now? Orin had ate least enough people count on two hands, which was still not terribly impressive but he'd take it. And well, Marco was on both of those lists.
The guy deserved a medal or some shit for that, and Orin had half a mind to get him one. He'd even get it engraved. 'Thanks for putting up with my shit for more decades than anyone else'.
Orin made a face as the other used that old nickname. "You're a real lucky jerk because anyone else calling me that is getting hit square in the jaw," he replied, but it was clear there was absolutely nothing behind the threat. As much as he still played up the tough guy act, Orin was far less...volatile than he had once been. It was a good thing, but that also meant having to remember who he was underneath all the bravado. It had taken a couple years, but he was getting there. He hoped so anyway. "Besides, if I did I wouldn't've asked you to hang out. Unless you wanna watch..." His smile broadened, unable to keep a laughing. He shook his head, managing to reel in his self-amusement. "But seriously, I was just thinking, maybe getting some drinks or something. Nothing wild, unless you expect me to wanna raise hell in my old age."
