* 𝙶𝙷𝙾𝚂𝚃𝙱𝚄𝚂𝚃𝙴𝚁!

For the Major Arcana, the deck itself has assigned him to The Hermit. Perhaps an unsurprising choice to some.

However, while I definitely think the introverted nature of his personality leans into this, I'm not convinced that it's the best all-rounder. I also considered The Magician, given the fact that his career is at least partially of his own making, but again, something was missing.

If you've read his bio, you'll see that I've listed The Chariot as being the card that I think fits him best. After this re-review, I'm sticking with it. Why? Because both its upright and reversed meanings can apply to him.

Upright: overcoming challenges and gaining victory through maintaining control of your surroundings...you must maintain focus, confidence, and determination through a process that will be full of winding turns and detours.

Reversed: you are lacking in focus, motivation or direction, or that you are being warped by your obsession with your goals...(it) can also be an indication of lack of control and direction over your life.

If there are two constants in him that are easy to identify, it's his focus and determination. The Inc, and its mission, never ceases to be the centre of his life. He also works hard - incredibly so - to solve problems, get answers, help people, and absolutely nothing is going to stand in his way if he can help it. While he isn't a man of confidence overall, he DOES possess a quiet form of it in his abilities. He knows that, sooner or later, his work is going to bear fruit - perhaps not the fruit he expects, but fruit nonetheless. After all, when research is concerned, an inconclusive outcome is still an outcome, is it not?

With this in mind, he needs to keep busy. He hates doing nothing, or at the very least, doing something that doesn't have a clear purpose behind it. There has to be at minimum a minute element of rationale in everything he does, otherwise he doesn't see the point. He hates losing focus, and distractions are almost always viewed negatively. As is also well-known, he is easily, and regularly, driven to obsession when it comes to his work and his passions too. Sometimes at a detriment to himself.

For me, particularly as someone who dabbles in tarot reading themselves, I think people sometimes focus too much on just the upright meaning of cards when trying to ascertain which suits themselves and/or their characters best. Understandable, to a degree - however, their reversed meaning is just as important, and often communicates just as much. To me, The Chariot does more than a good enough job of fitting him when both are considered.

After I finished my re-review, I then moved on to looking into the Minor Arcana. This one I found easier to pin down, and it's helped that the GB tarot deck has actually put his face onto perhaps the strongest contender, in my opinion.

A little cliche? Maybe - but it works. Its meanings sound more than vaguely similar to The Chariot:

Upright: indicates that you will have the energy, experience and enthusiasm to accomplish what you set out to achieve at this time. You are taking control of your life...you do not worry about other people’s opinion of you and you dare to be different...

Reversed: can indicate that you lack the energy, experience or enthusiasm to accomplish what you set out to achieve at this time. You are taking a back seat and are not being proactive in your life. You may feel that you are not up to the task or are giving away your power and setting a bad example for those who look up to you...

Again, we see this drive to complete what he sets out to do, and to live his life on his terms. Also poignant is the fact that he really, truly, does not give a shit about what other people think. Yes, his work, hobbies and interests aren't conventional. Who cares? Whose business is it but his own?

On the flipside, and once again, this links back to his focus and determination - he hates, and even almost fears, losing his willpower. He can and occasionally does end up exhausted, but he carries on. He sacrifices sleep, food, contact with civilisation, because he would rather go without than lose sight of his end goal. His work is inherently dangerous. One mistake, one oversight, and lives could be put at risk. Not on his watch. Letting those who depend on him down, too? Almost unbearable. He's lucky enough to have the circle he has, the last thing he wants to do is lose it because of his own failings.
