Often times, trainees are more receptive to what they see versus what they hear. The ability to show them what you want them to do and explaining how it relates to them in the real world, using visual aids can help to express your intended point more readily. In this instance, using the good training products combined with a photo-realistic target from showing an armed threat entering through a door helped to bring a sense of “this stuff happens in the real world” during a recent training session (along with current news articles). Showing a practical response on how identifying and using cover/concealment from possible areas in the home (a wall, bookshelf, etc.) helped to show an option that could save a life if this became a reality. What are you using when out practicing at the range?
