@fire-fira had a lovely headcanon for Coluans being spotted like deer on their backs. Because they typically dress fairly modestly however, no one knows they have them typically.

Unlike a lot of other species, who didn't get it at first but saw the appeal once exposed to it, Coluans do not comprehend human photo culture. They don't pose when their picture is taken, instead acting naturally while remaining in frame (which is what they understood the request to be), and don't really get the significance of why everyone else is standing still, facing the same way, and emoting.
Similarly, if you ask them to take a photo of something for you, the result is usually terrible by human standards, as they don't take anything into account except whether the image clearly shows the subject or not. Culturally, they've never treated photography as art, so they don't attempt to make a pleasing composition for what is "obviously" (to them) just a reference image.
There are more than a few Legion photos where someone has held Brainy in place and he looks a little annoyed as a result.

Coluan Culture?
Am I the only one super curious about Colu culture and society? Ever since my fixation on Brainiac 5 (from Supergirl) and the finale introducing how important Big Brain is I've been extremely interested in learning more about the history and evolution of the world.
I would love to explore how the Big Brain interacts with the planet and people.
How big is Colu? There is obviously genetic memory but also copious use of technology. Do they use technology to enhance that memory? Are Coluans born and then immediately implanted with technology? Or is that done in utero? Are there any Coluans that have neglected technology? Are they pariahs?
I wonder if transhumanism is a thing on Colu. Or if lower level intellects are treated differently. I would love to see Coluan expression of fashion and how technological implants might be integrated into that. How many Coluans are implanted with AIs? Is that rare?
Why would the Big Brain's destruction lead to the destruction of the people? Is the Big Brain tied into Coluan's own brains? How does it control the planet to the extent of causing annihilation if it's compromised?
What I know is:
-The Big Brain is a collection of experiences and knowledge, a repository for every single Coluan life. -Coluans believe in knowledge but not necessarily experience. -Some Coluans appear to have visible technological implants. -Most Coluans are green with light hair and light eyes. -In some iterations Querl Dox is more obviously robotic (animation) -A fixation on shrinking shit and putting it in bottles is a thing either Coluans do or the Dox family does. -Bullying exists so it would make sense that social levels exist, too.
I'm sure a lot of these questions can be answered in comic stories but I'm not sure where to look. If anyone has any recommendations I'd love to check them out!
What if the Coluan version of vitiligo is where patches of their skin turn blue and melasma is patches of what almost looks like pine needle green
Anyway. Brainy with blue freckles and purple eyes supremacy

what do you think the Coluan language sounds like?
I actually have multiple ideas, haven't really been able to decide on exactly one yet, but as I said before, I like to think that the Coluan language requires a vocal implant to be able to speak correctly.
Part of me feels like it would be a very fluid, almost velvety sounding language. For a logic-driven people who are very literal in practice, an outsider might get this impression of an almost jaded sort of sound, so it would be interesting if instead, the addition of vocal implants/voice modulation makes their language more musical to other species' ears.
On the other hand, though, I really like the idea that the language is spoken very quickly, in a sort of mechanised drone or murmur. To someone who isn't Coluan, the language would just sound like a series of very fast robotic sounds that would just be absolutely impossible to mimic without an implant. The best example of that kind of sound I can think of would be the way the Bynar communicate with with each other in Star Trek, Next Gen 1x14 "11001001". The Bynar come in 'pairs' and so their connection to one another allows for this flawlessly smooth and rapid-fire communication. In kind, Coluans share the Big Brain, and the idea that they are all connected on some base level gives me the impression that their language would also be shared in that same sort of manner.
As knowledge drives their whole society, sharing said knowledge in speech, written word or even telepathically would be something held with the highest importance. At the same time, though, I became a little obsessed with the idea that there are actually two different forms of written Coluan, one such form that's only taught to those of higher intellects as a way of preserving the most important information between the most esteemed clans. I haven't done too much study into Colu from the comics, so it's possible this idea doesn't mesh with canon, but I think it's a cool idea so I'm rolling with it regardless.
