So I'm a little late in making this post (debated on whether I even should or not) but I wanted to talk about my experience at Colossalcon 18 and even comparing it to other conventions I've been to.

Pros:

The convention center wasn't cpmplex. It was a ground level two giant circles for all the panels and venders areas. Easy enough to find anything, if it wasn't in one circle area it was in the other.

Schedule was on both paper and a phone app, which most conventions are doing. The major difference was the free high speed wifi. Usually data is used up from people using the con's apps or on social medias but at Colossalcon my data was barely touched if at all.

Things seemed organized. Line were straight and out of the way. Things such as badges were quick and easy to get. They monitored how many people were in a vender area and made sure not to over crowd it.

They had different types of venders. There was the otaku craft fair (anyone could come in and sell their own crafted items), two different dealers room (company based venders), and the otaku flea market (just as it sounds, artist alley (artist based venders who sell their own made things, slightly different than the craft fair) a flea market full of nerdy goodies). My favorite was the otaku craft fair (love supporting artist) but sadly it was only on one day. They had some many different things to offer!

Its literally at an indoor water park hotel resort! What isn't great about that?!

There was an amazing arcade room in both the convention center and water park area (though the ones in the water park cost money)

They had cosplay repair stations in case something happened to your cosplay during your time their and no time to go back to fix it. I didn’t use them myself but from what I saw walking by they had array of things to fix your cosplay.

Cons (lol the cons of a con):

All photoshoots are outside. This may sound great because all the space and fresh air (trust me a crowed indoor room full of people gets stuffy) but issue is the weather. It rained during the convention (mostly on one day, lucky). Now this is an issue because no notice of cancellation or move of location. I was informed later that people posted in the facebook event chat but the issue with that is not everyone has/use facebook and it was literally a last minute change (the one I missed was change 30 minutes earlier than scheduled which is annoying). They should really do something about secondary location for photoshoot or have someone at the original location to redirect people to the new one. Now it is true photoshoot are not planned or schedule by con staff but attendees but still photoshoots seems to be an issue at most cons.

There was alcohol everywhere (its true the drink didn’t have a lot in them but enough people start getting drunk). The con is known for there “parties” which include alcohol most of the time. I didn’t see any major issues just little annoyance of drunk people here and there.

Photoshoots weren’t the only thing that got changed last minute. Panels were moved to different locations last minute (not many were but some) and panelist went over there time limit for other panels which caused the other panels to be shortened. That is extremely rude and not a fun experience for those who want to attend the panel.

People were rude everywhere (most not even drunk or tipsy). People were cutting in line everywhere to anything. There were those people who were to “in character” at photoshoots and it was extremely hard to get things done. People just blocked in front of venders just talk rather than moving out of way for others to look. Security was also rude and very intimating. Had one come up to me to tell me not to take pictures in the venders rooms, which I knew of. Before he even spoke I told him I knew the rules and I wasn’t take pictures just holding my camera so it didn’t get bumped but he still ‘yelled’ at me. He made me feel unsafe being the vender for fear I was going to get kicked out or my camera taken away so I end up leaving the room because of him being so rude to me. Staff was also rude, one had her baby with her (crying baby) and she was suppose to check badges but she just yelled at me “I don’t care!” and I quickly got away from her. Staff was also yelling at each other over something stupid. So many rude people there.

There were a lot of panelist that were unprepared. Like a few even straight said "I don't have anything really planned". Why do a panel you don't even plan for??? There was some that had to be rushed due to rude people so it was a little disappointed but still enjoyable.

Overall I really did enjoy it and give it a 7/10. I would give it a 8/10 if I was mostly by myself or just with my brother. Colossalcon is definitely more of a group of friends type of convention. Not all cons are like that but colossalcon is known for large groups and parties.

realtalk, if i were to do lil stickers or something like these would anyone be interested in getting one for cheap? like 1.5-2in across, maybe like 2$ each?
