the important part of this piece is the hexagonal color map, though I did decorate it a bit to add interest. I chose the colors by hand and plotted them across the canvas to create large clouds of hue families, but its not meant to read like a smooth gradient and Im fairly confident it doesn't/that I succeeded with the vision. c:

Full map of all flag value-color associations for tulips. Ugly teal colors are invalid/unobtainable values due to containing a 10 as a bit pair, grey squares are unobtainable due to no tulip naturally having a bit set in the leftmost pair; white flowers are represented with light pink and everything else is exactly what it looks like.

Just looking at this itβs easy to see thereβs certain rules in place:
- Black tulips are 00 11 00 00 and 00 11 01 00- ie 00 11 0x 00
- Red tulips are mostly 00 11 xx x1... plus 00 01 00 00 for some reason
- Orange are 00 01 x1 00, purple are 00 11 11 xx
- Pink is 00 01 00 01... just that one value.

How I got the color palette?
I extracted the five most prominent colors from each image, and then used Python to count the most frequent colors to create my color palette.

I extracted the 500 most frequently used colors from art images downloaded from social media and paintings in BMA, and then blended them into a large color palette.
why i want to do thisοΌ
I want to connect with Baltimore through the colors chosen in art, and to represent the colors of this city through the colors of art.
I think art can, to some extent, represent the image of a city.
