Sorry for the crappy picture, and please ignore the trash I’d drug from under the furniture in question but not cleaned up yet.

See that glass cabinet? It’s set atop a chest of drawers. I grew up thinking it was attached until Pop once told me it came apart. Now the whole business was so heavy it hadn’t been moved in my life time, or any time Mom could remember either. When the room was painted when I was a teen we just painted around it.

Anyway, it’s right in line with the collapsing floor so something had to be done. If you saw it in person you would have seen it has come down enough that several inches of yellow paint was now visible. I figured out that only gravity was holding the glass case part on top of the drawers, so I needed a plan.

So I got to work, rigging up a table I could stand on in front of it, pivoting it around so the glass side faced the wall, and got to trying to tilt it over so I could lower it flat on the table before tipping it off to the bit of more solid floor. It seemed to be heavy, and it’s taller than me, but it isn’t like I had help beyond Mom to ask. I envisioned her getting squashed like a bug, so I was trying to keep her clear. I was worried I’d drop it, shatter the glass, fall off the table trying to maneuver it, etc. I was in for a surprise.

I had it half tilted over, straining to hold it and lower it gently when ...I realized it was coming apart!!!

So it turns out that this glass cabinet is entirely modular with no fastenings! It is constructed of sections for each shelf and one each for the top and bottom. These six separate pieces sort of pop together with a king of tongue and groove with a king of little seal along the edge. They lift off easy as can be and go back together just as easily. I had no idea!

In other words, great news! Finally one piece of furniture in this collapsing house that I’ll be able to safely move out by myself!

hmmm...You don’t suppose the piano will turn out to be snap together to?

***sigh***

 Instead I discovered that a plank wide section of the floor in that room from last night  has fallen out beneath the the furniture. And so I was just busy trying to shove things up “hill” away from the hole. 

While I was gone Mom decided to work on the entrance to my room with cinderblocks. Did that mean putting them under the area in front ot it where one end of the plank rests and the floor has started to cave in? Oh no, instead it is along the inner wall where the blocks are now pushing the floor further down. And she has removed the canvas that took me hours to put up to block out the cold. 

So I got annoyed and she got angry at me for being annoyed and....UGH!
