Well, as much as I love the idea of wings, I think that if he had been allowed to use it in s7, it would have taken the form of his new arm. 

I talked about this partly in this post, how it feels very fitting thematically. Like Black is thanking Shiro for returning her missing piece (the bayard) by using it to replace Shiro’s missing piece (his arm). Plus it further connects them together as Lion and Paladin, and asserts their true and final freedom from the Galra empire. Shiro is free from the tainted Galra prosthetic, and as long as the bayard’s connected to Shiro, neither Zarkon nor any other Galra can take control of Black ever again. 

Ok so, the thing about this specific kind of fic is there’s not a lot of it. In most Kurance/Luron fics I’ve seen, they fall in love while under the impression that Kuron is Shiro and if you’re lucky, it won’t just focus on Lance being abused by big bad evil Kuron and then Lance killing him. 

The problem is that fics where Kuron is validated as his own person and gets a happy ending are rare enough in their own right, and ones that are shippy are even harder to find. But here’s what I’ve got. 

@bosstoaster​‘s Don’t Let’s Start series features Kuron getting adopted by the team. It’s gen (i.e. no apparent ships) but Lance’s compassion for Kuron (renamed Ryou) is a core theme of the series. As a Kuron stan, I recommend the entire series anyway since it’s really good, but definitely at least read the first part Over and Overture. Then head on over to the Don’t Let’s Start Adjacent series. There you’ll find Save the Last Dance, Make me Sway and Love is a Battlefield, which are all unambiguously Ryou and Lance in love with each other and only each other, Shance not included. There are a few more oneshots mixed in with collections and on her blog, but I can’t remember them all atm. Hopefully this gives you a good starting point. 

I just found this one last night by @crazylittleseasparkle​. I Don’t Like The Cold is a soft sweet oneshot featuring Lance and Kuron and a broken heater and cuddling. 

These next ones are gen, but they are Kuron and Lance interacting and you can definitely read it as shippy if you want. 

Let the Rain (Come Down) by @thehouseofthebrave​ is a short but sweet fic of Lance convincing Kuron he’s wanted and helping him come up with a name of his own. 

Can You Tell Me What Is Real? by @noisypaintersong​ follows a similar premise and is no less heartwarming (and speaks to how much a scene like this was needed in canon for multiple people). 

Not sure if you’re up for these or not, but I also have fics of Lance mourning Kuron, after he’s gone. 

You Mattered by @blueplanettrash​. Kuron visits Lance in the astral plane and both get some closure. Lance reassures Kuron of his worth and Kuron has a special request. 

Different by comfycozysweaters based on this comic by @rijinks​. When Lance looks at Shiro, he mourns the man he fell in love with.

Uh, you mean canonverse or not-canonverse? ‘Cause if not-canonverse, hell yeah give him a twin brother and a grandpa and parents and extended family in Japan! :D Let him adopt all his clones! Man needs all the love he can get dangit! 

But if canonverse… well these are just my headcanons (and by ‘my’ i mean bits and pieces other people’s headcanons that i like and think make sense with a few ideas of my own), but I’ve always liked the idea that Shiro had a stillborn twin named Ryou. Ideally, Kuron would have been adopted as his new brother but we all know canon fucked us over on that.

For some reason, I feel his father died/left when Shiro was an infant and he has no memory of him. He lived with his mother and grandparents, but his mother and grandmother died pretty close to one another when he was 3-5; just leaving him and his grandfather. 

Shiro always loved space and his grandfather was always supportive of that, even when Shiro started showing signs of his illness. He bought Shiro model space ships and showed him how to put them together. It was a way of encouraging his interests while also exercising patience, focus, eye-to-hand coordination, and muscle dexterity. The first one they made together was the Calypso. 

As a teenager, Shiro tried multiple times to get into the Galaxy Garrison, but was always rejected due to his illness. His grandfather was still supportive, but Shiro started to grow more and more discouraged and it was at that point that his grandfather passed away. 

Shiro was ready to give up on everything, but then he found the old Calypso model he and his grandpa built together. The stickers were on crooked and glue stuck out of the seems, but it made him realize how his grandfather never gave up on him, and now he owed it to him to not give up on himself. 

I love the idea that he made friends with the other kids in the home. He was probably only in the system a few years. Because of his age and his illness he had little hope of adoption, but he took it upon himself to help and encourage the younger kids the same way his grandpa did for him. Most of them were adopted into loving homes. Shiro kept in touch with the ones still there when he left, until they were adopted. He felt weird about continuing correspondence after. They had their own families now and he shouldn’t be inserting himself into that. 

After a couple years in the home, Shiro finally got his chance when someone from the Garrison (maybe Sam or Iverson) brought the simulator test to his high school and he was able to show off his chops, beating all the other kids’ scores by a mile. Even though they normally wouldn’t allow it due to his illness, he was given a special dispensation for his skill. (side note: he made a point of visiting lots of schools with the simulator after becoming an officer, to give more kids like himself, who couldn’t get in normally, a chance)

And after leading his first mission, he was surprised to find letters from all the kids at the home congratulating him and telling him they knew he could do it. After that, he kept up written correspondence with all of them up until Kerberos. 

Right? Right??? It’s so FUCKED UP!! I don’t understand how anyone thought this was a good thing to put in a kids show. It’s horrifying! He was a person with feelings and he cared so much about his team, I related so strongly to his struggles, and they… did that to him! And there were all those other hundreds of clones who were needlessly destroyed… I was utterly distraught at the end of season 6. It’s been over two months and still…

The EPs claimed their consciousnesses and memories merged in an interview (after referring to him as a “Shiro Husk” in another), but this is never confirmed in canon. If anything, s7 contradicts it. 

Hey there! Thanks! Same to you! I’m happy you like my story ideas. I really don’t consider myself a writer, but I do have a writing tag on my blog and an AO3 with a couple short fics. I drew/wrote a Kuron comic a while back too. I am currently working on another ficlet if I can just edit it to my liking and figure out the ending.

As for recs… ok this isn’t going to be an exhaustive list. I’m sure there are lots of really good ones I’m missing because I can’t think of them all. ^^;; A lot of this list is going to be Kuron-centric, but most of the authors have lots of great Shiro stuff as well. As always, please heed tags and warnings. I tried to keep this list mostly gen, sfw and a bit lighter as my tastes tend to dip towards the hurt/comfort and darkfic at times. 

@bosstoaster (AO3) has over a million words of awesome Shiro-centric fics. I highly recommend the Don’t Let’s Start series, as well as Don’t Let’s Start Adjacent as it’s about Kuron (named Ryou in this verse) being adopted by the team and Shiro as his twin. There’s a lot to explore with the concept and each new installment dives a little deeper into Shiro and Ryou’s relationship, their relations to the rest of the team and their mission. Awesome awesome series and I can’t recommend it enough. And be sure to check out the rest of her fics. It’s basically your one-stop-shop for multi-ship Shiro-centric content. 

your bones are puzzle pieces by @smolsarcasticraspberry is another great Kuron-centric fic. How it really should have happened post s4-5. They find out he’s a clone, and shit hits the fan. But the team helps him while also searching for the Real Shiro. There’s a lot of angst with a happy ending, just the way I like it. <3

@headspacedad has a lot of great Shiro and Kuron fics. And Still the Stars is a great soulmate au fic for Shiro. For Kuron, I recommend Shadow, Black Bayard, and the Kuron Week fills for awesome Kuron introspection ficlets. Falling is a personal favorite. Please check it out if you haven’t already. I don’t want to spoil it. 

Pulseless Electrical Activity by @sassafrassrex is Shiro and Kuron-centric and takes place during the soul transfer in s6e7. This is a sad one, but beautiful and cathartic. It doesn’t sugarcoat the tragedy of the situation or shy away from heavy moral and philosophical themes. Also I really love the contrast between Shiro and Kuron in this one. 

Rose Gold Memory by @glyphhunter again I really don’t want to spoil this one too much. Just know that it involves a fantastic journey, beautiful imagery, lots of emotions, and giant sentient alien dogs. Really, what more could you ask for? 

Like Real People Do by @andtheblueberrymuffin was one of the first sympathetic Kuron fics I ever read after s3 and still one of my favorites. Beautifully explores what it means when a clone falls in love and when a clone is loved back. A three part series, contains Shallura/Alluron and a very evil Lotor, and gets pretty sad which may not be everyone’s cuppa. But for me it hit all the right notes.  

Parallel by Proxy by @velkynkarma I can’t talk about Kuron and Shiro-centric fics without mentioning this series, though I unfortunately haven’t finished it yet. Another take on the finding of Shiro and the adoption of Kuron as Ryou.
