Everything Good About the Kim Possible Live Action Movie:

Kim and Ron looked like normal(ish) high schoolers

I mean they looked more like middle schoolers, but in the movie they’re starting high school, so it’s okay.

Kim looks to be about what I expected a live action of her would look like.  It’s not that serious I guess.  I’ve seen cosplays that were better though.

The humor

There’s no real consistency to the original show

Both of our protagonists are starting high school.  In the original show, both Kim and Ron were already well into high school— the series finale was them graduating.  I guess the studio is allowed to make the plot of the movie whatever they want but

where is Monique

Kim has been a gymnast basically her  whole life, in fact, cheerleading is the explanation given for where she gets most of her cool skills from but in this movie she’s a soccer player?

apparently Rufus isn’t with us at the start of the movie because Ron ends up finding him later on, which isn’t consistent with the cartoon

why does it seem like no one knows that Kim spends her days saving the world?? It’s supposed to be common knowledge but it?? doesn’t?? seem to be in the movie??

who the heck is Athena????????

Rufus’s character design

The just randomly gave us a new character names Athena who is Kim 2.0 instead of, I don’t know, giving us a better plot?

So many unnecessary backflips and cartwheels and tumbles and slow motion shots.  We get it.  There’s action. Move on!

They took away cheerleading.  It was an integral part of the whole show, “Cheerleader saves the world” schtick the show had going for it.  What was the point of changing it?  Is Cheerleading not ‘feminist enough’ (this is the only explanation I can think of. I hope I’m wrong) for today’s audience? I can’t really come up with enough of a good reason to change it.  It was cool that Kim was a cheerleader.  Being one doesn’t take away from her character.  

What’s up with the weird necklace communicator? 

Drakken isn’t blue and She-go isn’t green

It’s nitpicking, but really, would it have been difficult to do?

Kim’s mentor was her grandmother?

no offense to grandma Possible, but one of the more important things about the show was how Kim’s parents weren’t the run-of-the-mill useless adults common in most other shows of the time.  It was a waste to skip over them.

Just the whole movie.

If you’ve never seen a single episode of Kim Possible in your life, then you can watch this movie without wanting to cry at the sacrilege.  It’s a good movie when you disassociate it with the original Franchise.

That’s essentially what this movie is though: an alternate (kinda worse) universe of the show that played a huge impact on my childhood.  It’s not going to give you a sense of satisfaction after watching, but this movie wasn’t made for us.  It was made to reintroduce KP to a new generation of kids.  If you watched Kim Possible as a kid and would like to see it again, watch the original show.  We got two better animated movies for it anyway.  The original cartoon wrapped itself up nicely, and it’s an AMAZING show.  At the end of the day, Disney didn't care about it enough, didn’t deem the show important enough to give it a proper live action and we live in a world where we have to accept that.  Disney is often terrible at live action remakes.
