Seeing someone like Coco in fantasy as the main protagonist is actually SUPER refreshing for me, and she’s genuinely one of my favorite parts of WHA.
And it’s not for any grand reasons, like “this is what the problem is with modern fiction and this is how Coco specifically solves it!”. No, not at all.
It’s simply because seeing a character unabashedly love their world’s magic/power system, seeing that character bask in how wondrous their world is, makes me feel all sorts of giddy inside.
Fiction, fantasy, stories: it’s all escapism, ultimately. A way to separate from your reality and immerse yourself somewhere else, if only just for a little bit. Ignoring the fact that it definitely means different things to others who aren’t me, of course, for the sake of this post.
Regardless, as a writer, creator, and consumer myself, when I spend time immersed in another world, over time, I kind of begin to forget why im doing it, you know? I get obsessive over intricate details of maths and histories and exactly how things work, and don’t get me wrong, that’s a part of the beauty of fantasy
But after some time, I failed to realize that I sort of just stopped seeing things as pretty. For how wondrous that spell would actually be, or for how artistic one can be with a specific power.
Is any of this making sense? Basically, what im getting at is that Coco, as a character, is helping me see that it’s important to love your world. Be that literally and when immersing yourself elsewhere, you can’t forget how beautiful things can actually be.
I love Witch Hat Atelier for a lot of reasons, but predominately what drew me in was how gorgeous it was, and I didn’t even realize that until Coco pointed it out for me. Art is amazing, and I should appreciate it more!
Art is why I got into Magic the Gathering, originally, it’s why I got into writing, and DnD as well. Simply looking at pretty things has molded my life in ways I could have never expected, and im so grateful for that.
Art is beautiful! And that’s also why AI art is FUCKING PURE GARBAGE-
ahem
